What's with the commercial banner ads...? If Crucial Technologies is allowed to advertise its memory products... does that mean we can all advertise our cars... houses... business products, etc....?

Yeah, I just saw a banner add for Blockbuster Video. I thought it was strange at first, but I've come across a few others lately. -The Starkdog

Too funny, I was thinking of starting a thread about the same thing. I've seen a few, the one I saw just now was a screen saver add. Same addy. BTW whats with the big picture. It's a real pain having to scroll to read a thread.

That annoys me, too having pictures that are too big in the forum.

Ziggie, What browser are you using? I can't tell from the picture. I use Opera as my main browser, and it is great because it blocks the little www.ad.doubleclick.com ad screens. IE just pi$$es me off. I can't even view PhilC's tutorial cd, because IE blocks whatever, and I have to click some crazy box to show blocked content. Then I get MS's popup box about viewing "dangerous content". The only drawback to Opera, is that Renderosity is slower than molasses in Antarctica. It can take almost 2 minutes to load a thread. Starkdog: I am using IE. The pop ups don't bother me.. it's the fact that Rendo appear to be allowing comercial advertising that is not connected to 3D graphics, etc. Anyway... I am gonna delete the original post now... cos pissing people off pisses me off. Especially people whose only comments in a thread are the fact that the size of my pic pisses them off...!

Use firefox, get adblock (lets you kill adds from specific sites) You'll never have to see anything from those folks ever again. eric

Nobody seems to be getting the point...! I don't MIND the normal rendo ads... I often see something new from merchants that way. But... I can't understand why we are suddenly getting 'outside' ads from Crucial.. Ballbuster Video, et al. Next thing is... Pizza Hut... Hertz Rentacar and McDonalds will be advertising here.

Renderosity has been selling outside commercial adverts for some time now, but these are carefully rotated so as to allow instore advertising to make up a big majority of the banners. (I am not sure on the exact figures, you could ask the store staff if you're interested.) Karen

Karen: thanx... my original question answered. It just seemed strange, because I visit Rendo umpteen times a day/night, and that's the first time I had seen an outside ad. I didn't realise that they were sanctioned by Rendo. Thanx again.

I thought that was a NO,NO here. Seems the rules keep changing. I don't think it's right. Next thing it will be Viagra, and why not, you see it advertised everywhere else, will be the answer.

They would have to be pretty hard on... err... hard up to advertise Viagra. And I thik that would be against the toss... sorry... TOS.

I think the official figure is 70% banners for merchants and the rest bein' made up of in house Rosity and outside advertisin'. Though with all averages its sods law to see the non poser related ones page after page after..... ;) Ever
