I use Corel Paint rather than PhotoShop or PSP, for post production touch-ups and compositing, but "for post-rendering"?? That term kinda threw me.

I've used Corel Photopaint, ver 8..on rare occasions..is that the same thing, or something new?

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Photopaint is a bitmap editor like Photoshop. Painter is more for creating art from scratch. It used to belong to Metacreations before they pooped out. Painter is good if you can, uh, paint. I use Painter for simple stuff like painting grass into a scene. I'm not good enough with it for much else. I use Photoshop for most other postwork.

I use Painter for postwork, especially for hair. The image hoses and pattern pens are also great for adding trim and detail to textures. Painter and Photoshop put together are an unbeatable team, they were made to go together. Painter has its own learning curve as its interface takes some getting used to, but it's another program that I've been using since release 1! 8-)

In other apps like PS and PSP you can only paint with one color at a time (OK you can "fake" two with color jitter). With Painter you can pick up as many colors on your brush as you want, adjust the size and number of bristles. That makes it incredible for painting hair...this sample shows ten different shades of red-auburn painted with ONE stroke. Painter has "Blender" brushes (that you wont find in other apps), which can smooth out shadows, skin, and fix all kinds of imperfections (even bad joints/bends). I could ramble on and on but for what it does, Painter is all by itself and is just amazing. SWAMP

Here's an explanation of how you can use a multi-colored brush to paint hair in Painter ...

Thanks, everyone. A big oops by me .... "post-rendering" was meant to be "post-work" ** blush **
