Attached Link: Cave Paintings and Christo's "Gates": Art in Individual Minds and Public Places

Greetings, This morning's eMail had a message from "Forgotten Delights" "Forgotten Delights" focuses on outdoor, public accessable sculpture in New York City. Today's "Forgotten Delights" newsletter had a link to her two part essay on "Gates" Her essay is an important statement about art and reality -- I hope that you will read it to see her message. The lesson here is about criticism ... and being willing to stand and be counted. The second part of the essay recounts the reactions to the original essay -- and especially to her critical comments about "Gates": Click on "EXASPERATED ADDENDA"; http://www.forgottendelights.com/essays/ChristosGates.htm#Exasperated ... or just read all the way down through. BTW, I've corresponded with the woman who created the site (and concept) after seeing a statue on her site that I had originally seen in 1959. Amazing ... two accidental finds of the same subject. Sorry I've been absent ... actually I wasn't absent, just quiet. MGD

phew I opened the link, saw all the text and fainted. Just come around and realised why I like photography so much - the picture says the thousand words instead of having to read them all ;-) Interesting read, though.... I can't say I agree all the way, but hey, if I agree with someone completely, they must be as mad as me - worrying thought ;-) Good to see ya posting again :-) (",)
