Subject: preview of the new P6 figures?

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2005 at 9:39 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 11:54 PM

I received secrets 3 and 5 in my email. Does anyone else think these are previews of the new figures. They look pretty cool to me :)

Heh... I can do that right now, for free >:) /P

Spit identified the female figure above as Laroo.

Smoovie ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2005 at 10:03 PM

When I got the email, I thought it was LaRoo

Byrdie ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2005 at 10:09 PM

Wonder who the guy is? Looks a bit like I could use him in certain fan art -- and no, not Harry Potter. ;-)

Eternl_Knight ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2005 at 10:19 PM

Heh... I can do that right now, for free >:) Well, no-one here was talking about the "features", but the content. Can we leave the P6 bashing to threads dedicated to the topic?

Dave-So ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2005 at 10:23 PM

i thought the same when I was checking that out..especially the dude ... looks pretty good, a bit like Don, but obviously facially different. LaRoo ??? maybe ... as far as the previews..looks pretty good to me..will it work, and of course, are we going to have to buy a new video card for the OpenGL preview to work. I would love a spot render...

I always liked Don even though I'm apparently in the minority. I do hope they've given him a makeover and a bigger wardrobe. Better yet if the new P6 folks can share clothes with the Mil crowd ... but I guess that's overdoing it in the wishful thinking department.

Eternl_Knight ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2005 at 10:32 PM

Better yet if the new P6 folks can share clothes with the Mil crowd Yeah, I think this is pushinig things a little. After all, onoe of the bggest complaints I hear about V3 is her "spaghetti arms". If CL were to make things compatible with the Mil3 group - they would have the same issues shrug I do understand the desire though. There is simply a mountain of stuff for the Mil3 crew, it WOULD be nice if we could just share that content across the figure families.

Dave-So ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2005 at 10:41 PM

its actually pretty strange that Don and the gang from P5 just kinda died right from the starting line..in fact, I don't believe they ever got off the line at all. There's been a bit of work with Judy lately, but nothing for Don...they're all pretty good figures overall imo.

From CL's P6 product page, regarding the User Interface:

"Area Render any selected part of a scene"

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2005 at 11:14 PM

Dave, there's not as much support for male figures in general. The P5 family's support very much depended upon how well Judy was received. Poser is a female figure driven market. So I think Judy was used to represent the entire P5 family even though Don was a superior figure. The success of the P6 figures may very well depend upon how Winter Queen and the P6 female are received. LaRoo makes since in that RDNA has worked with CL. I wonder if LaRoo or a derivative is a part of the P6 package... The guy does look really good. I'm trying to decide whether it's a new figure or whether it's just M3 in a promo. The shoulders tend to make me think its not M3. It could just be Don with someone who is really good in the face room... If so, I hope they include that face and texture.

AmbientShade ( ) posted Thu, 24 February 2005 at 1:19 AM

I have wondered for a long time why it is that there's so much more out there for v3, and the other female figures in general, while m3 and the other poser guys are being left out. The product ratio has to be 10 to 1 if not more. Is it because there's more guys using poser than women? doesn't seem to be. I have been wanting to start work on an all poser-male line of products, to sell and distribute some for free, but i'm rather torn on the subject. It could be either a really good idea and would go over well, or it might wind up being largely a waste of time because there isn't enough desire out there for more male based products. E.D.

Has anyone been able to see these previews on the CL website? I got the email newsletter (finally), but the image attached is incomplete. Also, are there larger versions of these images?

The male character reminds me of one person that always work for the Poser character content.. it looks nice!! I hope he don't scare us with close up shots where we recognize the knowing Dork's nose.. :) from distance he have nice form! Cath [Still on Air Until Monday]

The bodytype of the male charcter looks very much like Don,however the head looks quite different, and nice,I don't think this is just a Don morph... It would be a great dissapontment if CL does not improve the P5 figures and especially Judy... We'll see...all this excitement reminds me of the P5 waiting pitklad

Gareee ( ) posted Thu, 24 February 2005 at 7:37 AM

The new male character looks like the DR from LOST... That's definitly LaRoo.. but that's not her on the box cover for sure... This ltest announcement is kind of a dower.. every "feature" they mentioned is already available in D|S..

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Berserga ( ) posted Thu, 24 February 2005 at 10:26 AM

So? wouldn't you want P6 to do at least everything that DS does... keep in mind there are still a TON of things Poser 5 can do that DS can't. Of course, if those are the only features you want, and you like the DS interface, well then Free is definately a good price :p

dagmath ( ) posted Thu, 24 February 2005 at 10:34 AM

.---Heh... I can do that right now, for free >:) ---This ltest announcement is kind of a dower.. every "feature" they mentioned is already available in D|S..

That is as may be---
BUT

does DS have dynamic cloth-----NO
does DS have dynamic hair------NO
does DS use a FREE renderer---YES

This post was discussing the figures NOT what DS has take it somewhere else!!!

Right now back to the topic title---the FIGURES in P6 are rather intriguing can't wait for more images. A good looking male is what poser needs, a real man with a real belly and looks not a muscle bound nancy boy!!!

Byrdie ( ) posted Thu, 24 February 2005 at 10:45 AM

E.D. you'll have at least one guaranteed customer right here should you start putting out male poser items. Especially for the most neglected of the boys, like Don, M2 & Freak.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 24 February 2005 at 10:51 AM

Not bashing P6, just saying that I can do it right now, for free... PS: You can also do it right now, for free, just by getting hold of Crescent's P5 Toon shader. (geez - some people just assume too much :/ ) /P

Mec4D ( ) posted Thu, 24 February 2005 at 11:38 AM

I will never get to use with D|S I think, I sit to long behind Poser :P M2,Freak and David is already in my libraries so one more Adam2 after Extreme Texture-Make-Over and have enough to play with :) I think that we don't have to expect any wonders regarding new Poser6 figures, think only about the price of the product, not one company will make extra cost for more super figures and sell it at so low cost. Most important are the new updates and I can't wait for anymore.
Think only what you do when you get it in your hands and in your brains, I will render my old scenes and figures using new excellent features comfortable and without frustration drinking my coffee while working on , and D|S will still a long way behind me with new beta version on the air... it is not wrong but still not what I am waiting for... you can't compare D|S with Poser and vice versa.. Poser is a legend!!! take care about! Cathy the Dreamer :P

Cath, LOL... I agree there really isn't very much to compare between D|S and Poser. Personally, I'll stick with P6 as I'm already familiar with the Poser interface. I don't think the figures will be the higher end than the DAZ figures, but I think they'll be a great evolution from the P5 family. I just like playing with new figures :) I'm especially looking forward to the shadow catching and render preview features of P6. I think CL is making a concentrated effort to make the app as user-friendly as possible. Jeremy

Mec4D ( ) posted Thu, 24 February 2005 at 2:16 PM

user-friendly as possible? it is very well that why it is a success! and more success coming soon. I think Poser is now in a very good and professional hands I feel this, it is not the same as was before. and if this change this way as it did in Poser6 then it will a future for our old Poser. I can be finally proud of Poser5 and say this official to other ( professional CG artists) as they call himself if they use 3dstudio Max pirated BTW, because they can't recognize poser in renders anymore, so long you don't use Dork in your renders nothing on the hand .....lol
Sooooo Jeremy my dearest friend I will be happy to play with the new or reworked figures for sure.. it is always a challenge Cath
