Subject: Renderosity time-outs and errors

elizabyte ( ) posted Fri, 25 February 2005 at 4:46 AM ยท edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 7:06 AM

Okay. I documented this. Tonight (my time) I got a big timeout that lasted for about twenty minutes. I first had the problem at Friday, 04:08 R'sity server time and I kept trying off and on, and was finally able to connect at about 4:30 (it's well into the evening of Friday where I am, though). The error I got, and which I always get when this happens was a blank page with this sentence on it: SessSQL: Too many connections Every time I tried to reload, I got the same error. I'm hoping that this may help track down the problem, and that others who are also having weird timeouts and other errors will also document when it happens, etc. bonni

I just had the same thing too. Failed to note the times, sorry. i've had it a few times this week, and found that it also kills my cookie. I've needed to log in again after each outage.

I've been getting timeout errors and unresolved host errors all night, and not just on this site. Maybe Renderosity is having a problem with their server, but have you checked your system for trojans and spyware? I can't get rid of them, as soon as I clean and get back on the net, I get a new trojan warning and find my system littered with spyware. I've downloaded two spyware programs and been infected with more junk with each one of them, so be careful. Switching from Norton to EZ Antivirus was one of the worst mistake I've ever made. Be warned!

I just came back to the site after getting a total stand-still in data transfer. Went away for about ten minutes, and it was OK after that (but slow). Maybe this is just too many users at once?

elizabyte ( ) posted Fri, 25 February 2005 at 5:42 AM

It just happened again, Friday, February 25, 2005 5:32 CST: SQL Query Error: MySQL server has gone away Query was: show status LIKE 'Threads_connected' SQL Query Error: MySQL server has gone away Query was: SELECT ad_no, bannerad_url, bannerad_code, impress_served, ad_title, impress_max, buyer_email, contract_type, ad_weight FROM Advertisement WHERE status='A' AND contract_start_date <= NOW() ---------------------------------- Yes, my system is clean. I'm paranoid and use several spyware programs, including ones that run in real time, plus a firewall and virus scanner. bonni

I get the same as bonni most of the time. ~S

roxcat ( ) posted Fri, 25 February 2005 at 7:35 AM

I also get these errors sometimes. Yesterday I got the Too many connections error. Today, I would guess around 03:30 Renderosity Time, I got SQL Query Error: MySQL server has gone away. There was around 13300 people online at the time I think.

Poisen ( ) posted Fri, 25 February 2005 at 12:18 PM

Same here..almost to a T clean system, only this site, with a broadband connect. either slow as dialup...or the SQL error "too many connections".

This isn't a case of trojans or viruses, it's a case of MySQL and databases on Rendo's side. Google for it. You'll see Renderosity listed there in some of the returns...Ouch!

Geez, and I thought it was just me, and that I had too many Rendo windows open. (Yes, I know, sounds dumb, but, to my non-caffeinated brain, it seemed reasonable, LOL). At least I know I'm not alone ;)

I just figure that their server goes on "walkabout" when it goes away like that. Maybe it does a zen retreat thing? (I can see an overheated server unplugging itself from the world and radiating peace and contentment.)

Thanks for the information. We get hit with a lot of spiders around that time of the morning...but are looking into it as well. Clint

Tim posted this to one of the other threads on the subject.

2/26/05 06:03 Guys, As Clint mentioned in #4, we had recently added another front-end webserver box (that makes 5 now) that was running a newer version of Linux and the Apache webserver. I have downgraded the Apache webserver on the new box to match our other front-end boxes. Please post here & let us know if the image corruption problems are fixed. Tim

I keep getting a mess also; sometimes a page filled with encoded garbelygook. It has been like this for a couple of weeks noe off and on. Only at Renderosity, none of my other favorites has this problem. Just thought you should know. Several "refresh" attempts usually clears it up, but it is a serious irritance for sure.

It's those pesky pixies I tell you...They get into the works and start messing with ribbon cables and next thing ya know, you got a mess.

or maybe it's just overload of the mySQL server. :)
