In all my tekky geek stuff, I NEVER even looked at DVDR'w or DVD RW's. I scored 2 fer 1 sale on a DVDRW dual layer. So, never having one before, I was wondering how much I can write on a dual layer DVD.. thanks in advance! Raz~

After formating and writing a file table, there should be just over 8GB of space remaining for files. They're usually quoted as 8.5GB capacity, but I've never gotten that much in practice. -- Mark

How do you use these disks? Do you have to physically flip them over to burn each side? Do you have to flip them over in your DVD player? -ScottA

There's dual sided and dual layer. Dual sided you -do- have to flip over. Dual =layer= are just that, and only have one writeable side. There's track offset and a couple of other tricks to allow access to the 'middle' layer. What you -will- need though is a writer program that knows what a dual layer DVDR is. Otherwise, the second layer is never detected.

If you have ever noticed in a DVD movie where it pauses for a second, it is usually switching over to the next layer. Just something I found out the other day...

More importantly, can your DVD writer write to dual layer disks? If it doesn't expressly say that it will, there's a good chance that it won't.
