Hi, got the nice stones image sorted on the towers... cylindrical (in the B4 Mat Lab Editor)worked on that, sort of... But the edges of the battlements look weird - how can I fix this? Also as you can see in this image - the causeway looks odd too. I've tried various settings in the MatLab editor (B4) but can't seem to get it right. Cylindrical is definitely wrong, and there's no setting available for cubes or rectangles... which might have been better - does anyone know how to fix this? Fran

nice towers fran u could change to cubic or world mapping but then the towers will look wrong better put a diffrent material on the walkway so u can put cubic on the walkway and cylidrical on the towers.

Ah, but I've saved different materials to each part of the towers (knew how to do this in Wings - just want to know how to do similar in Blender), so I have the towers set at cylindrical, and just got lost on the causeway settings. Here's the Screen grab of my bryce 4 materials lab - no cubic anywhere that I can see. I was wondering if any of the other options might do? I've tried most, without any luck so far, but you can pick more than one, so I wondered about combinations? Fran

World cubic and object cubic, I think are only in Bryce 5.

I'm getting Bryce5... I just don't know when. It depends on the answer to my question to Daz on what's the cheapest route. Or I'm waiting for Bryce 5.5....depending on the answer. In the meantime, does that mean I can't do it in Bryce4? I was thinking I might go back to the Wings model, and put seperate materials on each side of each encastellation. Is that the only way? Fran

No, it's not the only way, Fran. Did you make the towers in Bryce? If so, you most likely used booleans to cut the crenellations. One of their abilities is to paint the material of the negative boolean onto the remaining positive shape. Merely put your negative objects into their own family, and re-map the same texture for that family so that it looks correct! Done!

xenic101 ( ) posted Sun, 27 February 2005 at 8:16 PM

The extra mapping modes are also added by the 4.1 patch. Did we ever find a url that still has it? If not, it's on my harddrive, Can it be redistributed?

in blender you can define materials for every face so just select the part u want seperated and asign a new material too it easy as that then in bryce set one material to cylindrical and one to cubic mapping . If you are realy adveturous you can uv map your model in blender those uv coordinates work in bryce too.

xenic this could be the site you are looking for...it has the 4.01 update on it. It also has a few other updates on there. You need to look in resources on that site for the update you are wanting.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

lordstormdragon, Nope, it's a Wings 3D model. I've also made the same thing in Blender, but I'm still stumbling around in the dark in Blender, ysvry is shining a light, but I think my eyes are bad, it's still hard to see... (ggg) I'm getting there in Blender, but slowly. There ain't no booleans here! Fran

ysvry, " in blender you can define materials for every face so just select the part u want seperated and asign a new material too it easy as that then in bryce set one material to cylindrical and one to cubic mapping ." I could if cubic was in Bryce4... " If you are realy adveturous you can uv map your model in blender those uv coordinates work in bryce too." I'm sure that "uv map" is a swear word. AAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!! (runs screaming from the room) Adventurous? Who me? Not a chance, the 'UV Mapping' land is a dark realm full of pitfalls and squelchy weird things that are forever hidden in a dark cloak of invisibility and inscrutableness.... (g) Oh, roofs bigger? Do you mean just higher or wider too? (I can do that in Wings!... Might even be able to do it in blender.... (scared expression)) Fran

Fran when you said this "Adventurous? Who me? CrazyDawg, I might have been... (innocent expression) I've downloaded that 4.1 patch/update for Bryce 4 - but it doesn't work. I get an error message saying - "can't find an installed version of Bryce." Dunno why cos it was right there, I even put the bryce4.1.exe file in the same directory as the Bryce4.0.exe file... What went wrong? Help? Fran

if it was an update file you only needed ti click on the bryce4.01.exe file and it should have installed the update. Not being funny when i ask this next question. You did download the correct file for you operating system ?

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Thu, 03 March 2005 at 5:14 PM

Yup, I looked carefully for the Windows one. It does say "IMPORTANT: install the files before running the update" does that mean I need to do something other than just click on the Bryce4.1.exe file once I've unzipped it? Uh, wait... 4.01? Not 4.1? Okay, I'll download that. Fran (so what's the 4.1 update for? Only if you already have bryce4.1?)

Um... what's "Temporary file for update" Name B4? It's just above the 4.0.1 update file, on the marchand2sable website. Fran
