Subject: A plea to -Figure Texture- creators

-posted also in the Product Showcase Forum sorry I come here today to post a plea.... With the coming of the "Unimesh" figures and the fact that we can now swap V3 and SP3 textures with Aiko, the New Teens and the PreSchoolers I ask a small consideration of all the wonderful texture artists of the community: PLEASE, when making your next creation, could you make one MAT with NO MAKE-UP? Just one MAT of your wonderful texture in all of its natural glory? Pleeeeease? So many of the textures I see now cannot be used with the teens and schoolers due to all of the fuss on the face. Unfortunately it is leading me down the road to either not purchasing new textures or returning them when I find I just cannot work them into my projects because I need textures that I can use across the board. If you could keep it in mind, it would be greatly appreciated. And as an aside..it would also be wonderful if you create with painted brows if they could be created in all of the general hair colors slinks off before someone hurts her

Also make a version with, ahem, no pubic hair. Pubic hair can always be applied afterwards with a trans map.

guslaw ( ) posted Mon, 28 February 2005 at 9:23 PM

Very good points, both of you. Perhaps then we'd see more use of the 'younger' uni-mesh figures. More use = more demand for clothing and accessories More demand for clothing and accessories = more opportunity for vendor/artists More opportunity for vendor/artists = larger market... ...and so on, and so on

I like no-makeup textures even for adults. Textures with makeup are generally only suited for contemporary images. Makeup styles change very quickly, and today's hot look will be ridiculously dated tomorrow. For fantasy or historical or SF, makeup that looks like it came from the current issue of Vogue is out of place.

I'd also like to make a plea for truly natural textures. A lot of the supposedly "natural" textures have frosted lips and plucked brows that look out of place on a child. Heck, some of the textures that were specifically made for the DAZ PS girls have plucked brows.

...and to emphasize randym77's and Fazzel's points, what's with the stylishly trimmed ...uh, body hair. Not all nude female figures are used to depict strippers or porno stars and totally inapropriate for historic or period renders. As an extra, fine - but not as the only option. Edited to add: - and the same goes for 'cut' male textures.

Hmm, okay good points. I have one texture I'm working on that has no make-upon lips, eyes or any where. But...it may be some time before she gets to market. I'm only allowed three at present and there's two in my store now. For my third an M3 texture is almost ready. So I'll have to decide which of the two gets to move into the store...sigh.

guslaw - not all "stylishly trimmed" women are strippers or porno stars. However, it's my intention that all future female textures I make will have several pubic hair options on the transmap and none painted on the body. I'll also follow the "no makeup" suggestion. Another one I'm looking at is producing head textures without eyebrows and putting those on the transmap, too. I'll also be making eye textures different from most other artists. I usually have to change the ones I buy, anyhow.

and the same goes for 'cut' male textures YES. Boys are born with a foreskin, and the majority of men in the world are not circumcised, and historically, most never were. Is it really that hard to just include a foreskin map in the pack? I also agree on the public hair thing. The shaving of body hair (particularly pubic hair) is a very culturally specific and modern thing. There's nothing wrong with women who are au natural. bonni

If the texture has no pubic hair, then you choose your own degree of bushiness using the transmap. I echo the plea for base textures to be without make-up, frosty sparkles, etc.

I always have the no pubic hair and no makeup default on the ones I create.

All of my characters include a no make-up option. I didn't realize that there where packages out there that didn't have a base, no make-up texture.

hehe. Daio, I actually decided to post my little plea because of one particular texture on the market currently. It is just beautiful and would be PERFECTION for a particular character that I created for some story illustrations....but the fact is, it offers NO non make-up option and I can't have this 11 year old looking character with khol eyeliner and blood red lips. Actually, I am hoping to pick up your Ravenna very soon for another one of the 'teen' characters in these stories that I am illustrating.

I have to agree with the no-makeup and no pubic hair on the texture maps, because a)it's nice to have a face with no makeup and we can add our own. and b)No pubic hair on the main texture map, why? well i create and am about to release several items of clothing for V3, But you can see the pubic hair sticking out of the sides of the costume... now that doesn't look nice...So i have had to edit the textures.(Please Morris can you make your texures without the pubic hair)... Also it means the textures work better with Perfect G.

Is this what you're talking about? I made this as a base texture for 4Winds but did not include it in the package. It has no details in the pub are at all, just skin texture. This is just the head and shoulder shot.

Yep BluEcho that's it, and im sure more people would buy textures if they new that a base texture was available. nice work..

With my latest character Brooklyn, I have MAT poses for no make up, just eyeliner or the whole nine yards, eyeliner and eye shadow so she's pretty versatile. After seeing how pretty I thought she looked without makeup, I just couldn't leave out that option LOL...she's in my store now if you want to take a look and I think your suggestions are very sensible. Making a note...there will always be a no makeup option from now on. :) As far the pubic stuff is concerned, I use Lisbeths wonderful transmaps so some of my textures have pubic hair and some don't but heck, if someone needed it removed, I'd be more than happy to remove it and send them an additonal body texture. It's called keeping the customer happy and that's what it's all about.

With all of the various hair products available in netdom... with all of the varied colors of the rainbow... if making a character with say, blonde hair.. having black brows is not exactly appropriate... not to mention the many fantasy hair colors for hair figures.. like Pink and Purple... If the artists would leave the brows as a transmap only.. the easy of matching the hair colors would be much improved... This point of view goes across the board with the body hair issues as well... -Lee ** Edit to add... this holds true to MALE textures as well as female... ;)

I know what you mean about transmapped brows. Unfortunately, it's really hard to get realistic-looking "natural" brows with just transmaps. You'll notice that most transmap-only brows have that slim, plucked look. It doesn't really look natural, especially for males, who tend to have bushier brows.

LeeEvans ( ) posted Sat, 04 June 2005 at 12:21 PM

This is too true.... I've attempted several times to try and use the hair room to do hair for the face, but as I am a severe gimp when it comes to that... I've never done anything even remotely 'realistic' ... maybe a hair room pro could make some dynamic brows for the Gen 3's? Thats something I'd be willing to pay for... (hint.. hint... hehe) -Lee
