I'm in the process of re-modeling Jerusalem at was in Jesus'time for a project. The city will not be an excact copy, I'll be using some artistic freedom. At the moment I'm only focussing on the city, haven't done anything about the landscape yet.... By now I've got a lot done when it comes to walls, towers and buildings and some of the progress I do want to show here. There's much more to the project then what is shown here. There are already different types of gates, towers and houses, besides the ones shown in this image. I'm considering some extra buildings like the temple, a citadel and perhaps a colosseum. All of buildings and materials for the buildings are being created by me and I'm considering releasing the final project either for free or for a small fee (really small). All of the buildings seen in this image are created of seperate 'modules'. This way the user can mix and match buildings in order to create the city wanted. The whole set will be perfect for ancient cities. I'm posting these pictures to get some feedback on this project. Is it something others can use too? I've been focussing on the more distant image like the one in this post, but how about the close up, will that be good enough too (see next image)? What types of buildings could be used too (not promising I will do them, just asking).

I think it looks really good, really like the closeup one. Think there has to be a temple at the very least. Think most eastern cities you recognize instantly because of their temples. And the tower thing think it's where a priest stands calling out for daily prayer... lol sorry not a pro just remember seeing something like that on a documentery type show.

Jerusalem is built on 5 hills, when you get to terain. and it is in its third rebuild in common era... Take a look at Moisha Sofdie (spelling) designs for redeveloping sections of Jerusalem, this is his idea to take it back to historic time,@ architecturaldigest... Looks Good R

Looks great already. Just one little thing. I don't think that at that time people were able to build houses so accurate. With so sharp edges as only concrete in our days can do. If you are able to add a little "noise" to the models i think then it is perfect.

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

Far too much open space, if you ask me. Ancient Jerusalem was a jumble of buidlings close together with little narrow windy streets, nothing like so planned and regimented as you have there.

Hi there, Jerusalem is built on hills this is correct. from the mount of olives (mount Scopus) etc the amazing thing about it, is that there is still so much there today that you can get a great feel of what it was like. we completed a documentary on it where you can see how the city was built up from King David to Solomon and then the temple of Herod. Which by the way was around at the time of Jesus of Nazareth (more or less but thats a matter of archeological debate). so the most noticable things would tbe temple (very important) and the Souk's (market places) the place would be much more maze or warren like, (sorta like today really) i hope this helps, please feel free to email me if you need reference images etc at ross@rosswebbfx.com regards, good lukc with modeling the temple, i would love to see what you come up with! -Ross

Ok, here's the progress on the major buildings. The image shows Herod's palace with detailed materials. The bottom image is the inside of the main hall.

Here's an image of the Temple. Please note that the outer court (for the gentiles) is missing, this one I (or the user) can build very quickly from wall and tower sections included in the package. Bottom image shows a shot inside the Temple. There are no artifacts or so, I'm only focussing on the buildings. I'm not in need of those at the moment, but I may (or may not) create an artifact and furniture pack when needed. Besided the Temple and Herod's palace, I've got all of the houses ready, wall and gates and a citadel (Modeled after the Antonia).
