Subject: Different Runtimes , where do we go ?

It is very nice to have more than one runtime, I found out not so long ago. But how to keep track what is in what runtime ? How many runtimes do you have ? I thought a runtime for each artist may be a good idea.

I have a runtime for each character. M3, V3, M1, V1, the MilKids, the Young Teens, the Preschoolers, David, SP3, etc. And there's a separate runtime for "Hair," since you can use that with any character. I also put other things that I can use for any character there, such as eye textures.

I also have some "theme" runtimes. Fantasy, SF, Contemporary, Nature, Toon. And there's a runtime for current work, so I can keep stuff I'm using on active projects there, then delete them when I'm done.

It really depends on the way you work. Remember, it's easy to add and remove runtimes. You probably won't want two dozen runtimes loaded at once. If you organize your runtimes properly, you'll be able to load just a few at a time, depending on what project you're working on.

randym77, I set my runtimes up nearly the same. If you have Vicky 3, Mike 3 (etc), you want to copy their !DAZ Library folders over to your main Poser 5 installation. The whole process is easy. Just create a folder out in the main hard drive with the name of the Runtime you want to use (example: Vicky3). Install your stuff directly into that folder. Link to Poser 5. You might only want to link the Runtimes you're using at the time. Poser 5 will load faster.

Definitely. This goes for any item that has injectable custom morphs. Either install it to the main runtime, or copy the folder with the deltas, etc. over to it. Examples: Achilles' head sculpture kits, the RDNA Microcosm.

A couple more tips: put the new runtimes somewhere other than the Poser folder. Poser will run faster that way. The main runtime and the Downloads runtime have to be in the Poser folder, but the others do not. And keep the pathnames short; you'll save yourself a lot of tedious clicking and scrolling that way. My external runtimes are in a top-level folder called !Runtimes.

If you've already put your runtimes in the Poser folder, no problem. You can move them anywhere you want. You will have to add them to Poser again, but other than that, nothing will break when you move a runtime.

Maybe this illustration will help. Keep hitting that up arrow till you get to the top level. You'll see a red dot. Then follow the steps in the illustration.

Ok, I know how to add runtimes but when you say to link only the runtimes we'll use, do you mean remove and add runtimes in there every time we use Poser? Right now what I do is I have all the runtimes listed in that menu (on your screenshot) and I highlight the one I need when I need it. France

Yes, you can add and remove runtimes. If you only have a few, there's no need. Keep them all loaded. If you have dozens, you probably don't want them all loaded at once.

I don't add and remove runtimes every time I use Poser. Usually, I work on one project (or one type of project) for several days or even weeks at a time. So I'll swap out runtimes when I start a new project (or get a new figure to play with).

I have a large external hard drive - lots of space, but kind of slow, since it's external. I keep most of my runtimes there, but will move one or two to a faster drive when I'm working a lot in them.

Ok thank you. I will try to let them all there and if it is really slowing down Poser, I'll remove some of them. France

You can use the "+" to add Runtimes, and the "-" to remove them. I only have one or two linked this way most of the time. But then I also have my Poser installations optimized by using CorrectReference Pro to get all the references correct.
