Hi there! I am here seeking some help. I am a primary years teacher ( teaching computer across the school from ages 5 - 13). My part time passion is Digital Art : Photoshop mainly, but I dabble a bit in Poser, Vue and Freehand. Anyway... my love of Digital Art has filtered into my teaching with kids (which is an amazing journey!)and our school has purchased Photoshop Elements for our entire computer suite. I want kids to explore this media as another vehicle for self expression and creativity. I buy every Photoshop and Digital art magazine I can and have trolled through the huge depths of online tutorials for any task, project, activity that uses Photoshop (Elements if possible) and that would be manageable for students about 10 -13 yrs. ( You know the sort of stuff kids love to do - simple processes, but results in terrific effects .. using a photo, graphic, design etc.) My collection is growing, but I would love to gather ideas from anyone who has a suggestion or would like to send me a simple tutorial to try. I would have the kids, if they can use a parents digital camera to take some images of either thier pets or favorite toy,then teach them how to bring the picture into Photoshop.They could then use many of the artistic filters it has.Perhaps get them to learn how to add fonts ofr a name.Adding borders. I see you posted this in the Photoshop forum as there would be some other great ideas in there also. I would start them off with smaller file sizes so the wait time on the effects is reduced.

DB, they wouldn't allow that in our childrens' school because it would make the kids whose parents didn't have digi cameras feel stigmatised and left out..... (",) Note for Foreigners : The Sun is a national daily tabloid publication which on page 3 displays a usually pleasantly endowed female form with her upper half unclothed.

Well the thing that will solve that, is maybe the teacher can take a digi photo and use the same one to distribute to the kids and let them give there own personal touch to it as DB mentioned using the artistic filters and borders. It sounds like these kids are really going to have some fun! Good luck!

Thanks for the great ideas .. though I'm not too sure that parents would like the pg 3 Sun activity!!!!! We are really fortunate in our school (due to some encouragement from me!)that we have 6 digital cameras that teachers and students can use in lessons. We haven't yet explored the possibility of letting kids take the cameras home - a worthy idea to look into more fully - thanks! Keep the ideas coming... thanks so much for the input. Jan :-)
