Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 18 5:11 pm)

Subject: Okay, here's a real weird one...

Penguinisto ( ) posted Fri, 04 March 2005 at 2:55 PM · edited Tue, 14 January 2025 at 4:50 PM

Last night, I import a background picture into an image, then go to render the image. The background comes out white. (not the default BG color, but white.) I do know that this might have to do with something in the Runtime possibly getting munged when I went to re-organize it. I do have a backup copy of the Runtime as Runtime.old within Poser, so I can copy whatever bits are needed to correct any bad sections. I just need to know which bits may affect this. /P

What format of image? - Noel

hmmm... perhaps an insidious poser background image specific virus? :-)

The other thread was mine. And restarting poser fixed it for the time being. One other thing I did that might have fixed it, I made sure the inported background was not larger than the work area window. Smaller seems to be ok, but larger might have been the problem. My experiment wasn't controlled enough to say whether that was the problem, still working on it though.

Just FYI, I don't think the runtime folder or anything in it would have anything to do with it.

JeffAlberts ( ) posted Fri, 04 March 2005 at 4:19 PM

FYI again, I couldn't duplicate this with a background image that was larger than the work area (and saying no to resize...) It's just a mystery.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Fri, 04 March 2005 at 4:53 PM

didn't matter which image format-this showed in the workspace. (FWIW I use P5 on a Mac G5, OSX 10.3.whatever.the.latest.version.patch.is) Dunno - I guess I could just re-install (and chuck a saved Runtime back in...) /P

What Poser ver? I was able to duplicate this in P5 (FF renderer) by setting Render Over (in Render Options)to Current Background Shader & setting BG Diffuse color to white. Make sure ya select Background Picture in render options, & don' touch the BG material. Fer better results (or if that wasn' it), though, use a BG prop w/ yr tex applied.

This user has been known to swear. A LOT!

P5.0.4.325 here, and I hadn't changed the render options in that respect. As soon as you import a background image the option "Render over background image" is automatically checked. Changing the BG color shouldn't matter, and I've experimented and couldn't get this to happen again without checking a different "render over" option.

No problems here rendering in Firefly over imported background picture. BUT if I subsequently "Paste onto Background" any further rendering (in Firefly) over this (new) background will ignore what I've just pasted until I return to preview mode? What is more, if I was to firstly render a scene over just the background colour (with no picture imported), and then "Paste onto Background"... I can reproduce your white screen issue in a subsequent render over background.

None of the rendering I did involved pasting onto the background...

Penguinisto ( ) posted Sat, 05 March 2005 at 4:53 PM

Fixed it. I re-installed SR4 and the problem disappeared. /P

JeffAlberts, though this may shortly be moot, with the impending P6 release, the latest Mac OS X version of P5 is 5.0.4.335. The downloadable version of build 325 (as opposed to the boxed version, I think) has a problem with the inability to choose which mesh groups a deformer will operate on. I had a minor hassle convincing CL that the version I was able to re-download did not fix the problem, but eventually they chopped up and emailed build 335 to me (as well as mailing me a CD copy in case I couldn't put the chunks back together). Altogether a good support effort on CL's part, but I learned that they had difficulties with the registered user database (too many different purchase/shipping options and past company history) as well as not being able to directly administer and manage conveniently the electronic purchase download versions of P5 on an individual user basis due to the web site being owned by a different company (presumably Digital River).
