Another social issue, or maybe I should say, "human" issue, is pollution generated by factories and other green houses emitions! The air we breathe stinks! I did a 'lil bit of postwork on this one, removing some lines that were on the way! ;) Couldn't get the shot from any other point of view so....oh well! It's not that bad, is it?

Dear tibet2004uk, You have hit on a major issue, worldwide implications. I hear the Mediterraneam Sea is not the clean waters envisioned by those who have not been there..and the air..wow, that is everywhere. I think this is an excellent additon to Social Issues. God Bless and Peace. Tom.

Great image too. Added to challenge page

pascale, it looks great, the photo that is, like the tree could be crying... major problem... gasp :P

"...like the tree could be crying..." I agree, like all are are looking toward the factory, the smoke and their legs are firmly rooted in the ground they call home.

Y'know this REALLY hits home! Factories are a major source of BAD air and they pump out all kinds of toxins! They get away with it thru some legal loophole or paying SMALL fines! Its the stuff ya don't see that can be just as scary (IF NOT MORE SO!) In NJ a story just came out of a factory that closed 9 years ago that processed Vermiculite, a material which contains asbestos. Well its been discovered (all of a sudden) that this one factory has contaminated a huge area! Place that now are considered Suberbia, schools, businesses and whatnot! Way back the DEP gave it a "clean bill of health" Now there's apparently 40% of this cancer-causing DUST floating in the air and in the ground! Guess what??? The original report that stated that "everthing was alright" was released by the factory itself...and no-one questioned it! Guess we'll be seeing all kinds of health issues from this...if it hasn't happened already! Makes me SICK! Joe

Yup, a serious issue indeed. I've been led to beleive that the higher the chimney, the more potentially dangerous the smoke is.... dunno how true it is though. What really gets my goat about Smokin' Stack pictures is the ones the Campaigners use where they show the big round power station chimneys with the smoke pouring into the air - usually 4 or 5 of them together. What they fail to tell you is these stacks are giving off nothing bure steam. Yep, just the same as you putting your kettle outside and letting it boil. Oh, and they talk about car fumes? Spilling a drop of petrol on the forecourt as you take the nozzle out apparently gives off more pollution than driving your car 50 miles..... This pic? chilly!! Add to that the general underlying tone of the pollutant, and it sends a shiver down yer spine! (",)

WOW!! Such a fantastic feedback on this!! Thx so much to each and all of u for such a cool response!! :) There's factories like this one all along the Thames river where I live at the moment! I don't even want to know the level of pollution in the water! :( And I'm not even talking about the unbearable ugliness of the view!
