Subject: Take your chances...

jimry ( ) posted Tue, 08 March 2005 at 5:17 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 3:50 PM

Was driving along early evening the other day and what did I see....a most glorious sun settling down for the night.
Filled the frame entirely BUT, had SO much distraction in the foreground...SO, drove to a good vantage point and guess what....TOO LATE..!!!!! GONE...no sun, no shot, no fun!!!

Oh well, always another day

Anyone have this problem...

sorry, Jimbo!!! that sucks!!! this is what happens to me with birds all the time. just when i get close enough...they fly away!! yep...you'll have a chance another day!!

Well...of course Jim. :) But I feel what's worse is NOT having the camera with you and seeing a sunset such as that and not being able to do anything whatsoever...I think it always happens like that for me....so new lesson to learn, always have the cam with you. ~sigh~ I'm sure you will find a way to get that capture.

Eh? problem? FFS, that's what yer car roof was made for!!! You stand on it you ALWAYS get a good vantage point ;-) (",)

Been there (many times) and still make the mistake on occasion. But now usually just get the shot, foreground distraction or not, photography is a game of chance as you well know. Of all the people on here you know better than many, hesitate and its too late. If you used the same thinking with your wildlife shots, you would miss many opportunities. Not a criticism JimbO just an observation.

You are right Simon...but there were many hangups about this shot...really there was...Main problem I found while driving and you see 'the shot' is that you need to find a safe parking area first...and take it from there. You should see me around the lake....I literally run sometimes either to get closer or to get a better viewpoint...lol

Yes that is the biggest problem when driving; sometimes it is just not possible to stop where you want, for safetys sake. Running round the lake! If I ever see you do that, it will be I that gets the best action shot lol

Now this is frustrating indeed!! And Miky, I just love the idea of using the car roof!! Wouldn't have thought of that! ;)
