This is a sign in a public area here in Olympia. It is at a main downtown Bus terminal....paid for by good tax paying citizens unlike me. This is public property! Most of whom prob. haven't even taken advantage of the public transportation system. They vote so they have cars. They prefer to pollute our atmosphere w/their carbon dioxide emmiting trendy death machines. They don't like them loitering punks though. Vagrants, drug addict punk kids, and scary people that may must rob a good citizen...smoke some weed...or even worse, or at least offend a good tax paying citizen who appreciates the more traditional classical music. Hell...someone might even be hungry....and loitering...what a crime! Last I heard they (city bus commity held a meeting and decided a a good way to scatter these punks was to brodcast classical music over loadspeakers. Pathetic...it reminds me of war tacticts where troops take to blasting intimidating music over loud speakers to fuk with the enemies heads. But this bus music they proposed...it is good music...Beethoven, and Mozart...What makes these sef righteous people think that these loitering populus don't appreciate good classics? Most degenerates I've met appreciate this this sort of music. Fool adults...They want to have everything in order, all nice, but as long as they don't have to have anything to do with the low lives of society the better off for them. Maybe if they would talk to them..and even listen? Well...Good church goers....as long ss their lives are pleasant in their minds eye then all is well...glory to them! Heaven bound good citizens with respect! Unlike so many of the rebel kids they have produced...but they can't control the new order. So Fuck them! They were not here first. They think they own this land! Damn patriotic murderous savages stole it from the Native American Indians....They don't own it...They just think they do. Fools...didn't they read the Bible? God owns everything! -Peace :-)

Wow. I thought I got a bee in my bonnet sometimes ;-) Got a point thoughy Cooly.... but if push came to shove and you had a homeless person sleeping on your doorstep, can you put your hand on your heart and say you'd let them stay there? (",)

Jeff, this is a wonderful entry to the challenge and I'm so glad you brought all this up!!!! playing classical music to disperse people who are hangin' around bus stops? LOL! they really do have some kind of attitude problem!!! like you said, sometimes people just need someone to listen to them. Most of the people who are looking down their noses at the homeless people, the poor, the mentally ill, and people who are struggling with addictions, well, they tend to "dehumanize" these people. They ARE human and they have feelings. I've been working in the mental health field since i was 18. i stopped about 8 years ago i guess. not that i don't love it, but i needed a break from the intensity. and well, i also wanted to make a bit more money. the pay is crappy. anyway, a lot of people have a difficult time just looking a homeless person in the eye. They don't WANT to see them Jeff. They don't want to see drug addicted people or the mentally ill or people so poor their clothes are in tatters. they don't wanna see the homeless. They want to see a perfect little world as you said. well, we don't live in a perfect world. many of the women i saw coming thru the homeless shelter i worked at had substance abuse problems...mostly crack and alcohol. i hear people around me talking about "crackheads," "potheads," and "drunks" all the time...making fun of them. I don't find it amusing. Drug addiction is NOT a laughing matter....at least not to me. People who are drug addicted are NOT bad people. They've gotten addicted and it's freakin' harder than you-know-what to get clean. No matter how much they WANT to come clean, the physiological addiction is tuff. your body literally goes nuts (into withdrawals) until you get your next hit. People think a "druggie" just needs to stop. it's not that easy. it's not like mind over body. Sometimes all it takes is just one use of crack or whatever the substance is and bam...the person is addicted. Drugs are sooooo dangerous. It's so easy to get addicted. and the peer pressure these days is incredible. nowadays, elementary school kids are getting addicted. all the willpower in the world does no good. IMO, they need rehab and they need a higher power. Alcoholic's Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are awesome! they save people's lives. Working so many years in mental health, I've gotten to know these wonderful people who are struggling with mental illness and addictions. they're good people with serious problems. I lived on-site at the homeless shelter I worked at. I was on-call day and night. (my supervisor was the one on call when i was away from the shelter for school, my other job, etc.) how many times did i have a knock on my door at 3 am from a resident who just needed someone to listen to her while she was on the verge of taking a drink or going out to get a fix? i mean, they white knuckle it. sometimes i would just sit and hold these ladies while they cried. i really got to know these women and their struggles. They were trying soooo hard NOT to use drugs while their body was screaming for it. I'd call their NA or AA sponsor for them. it's all about trying to get thru one day at a time. anyway, i got really burned out by that job. it was really intense and emotionally draining. Mike, i understand your question. it's a good one. Would i let a homeless person into my home? no. it wouldn't be safe to let a stranger in my house, even if my heart was breaking for them. But i would tell them where they could go to get shelter and food. i've done it before. The organization i worked for here in Louisville has about 9 homeless shelters here in town. They rarely have empty beds. Where does a homeless person go for shelter when the shelters are full? We, as a society, really have to start dealing head on with these issues. Homelessness, mental illness, poverty, drug addiction. I don't have the answers. We gotta get these people the help they need. we gotta STOP looking at them in ways that are dehumanizing. they are REAL people with REAL feelings!! They don't WANT to be addicted. They don't WANT to be homeless. They don't WANT to be mentally ill. They think playing classical music over loudspeakers is gonna solve these problems. sigh. sorry for the long post. i'm not good at expressing myself with just a few words as you guys know. Thanks, Jeff, for doing this!!!
