Ok this is gettin' crazy...yesterday it was in the 60's here in NJ. Today FRIGID...with the wind it's10 degrees outside! Ontop of that we got a bit of an snow/ice storm! Just when the remainders of the LAST storm were almost gone! Sooo....I though it was a good time to experiment a bit. This time with long exposures, a pen light & glow stick! Nothin' great...just messin' around (learnin' what my camera can do!) This image I tried tracin' my hand... (10 sec exposure)

This is 2 pix combined in Pshop...found out it is really hard to write in the "AIR" and NOT overlap the letters...gotta practice more! (Both were 15 sec exposures!)

Last one - yours truly (hidin' behind the green glow) (4 sec exposure) BTW all there were using 50 ISO setting too! I also used a tripod and my cams remote shutter release. L8r! Joe

joe, we got almost the same exact sh_t here!!! Yesterday, in the 60's, gorgeous wonderful weather! today in the 30's and it snowed! none of it stuck though and thank goodness we didn't get ice. Tell me about the winds. I'm 32 degrees isn't that bad but when i took my walk today before work, i froze my a_s off! Almost turned around because that wind was biting!! These images are just way too cool!!!! Hey Joe, why don't you enter that Photo Forum one into the banner contest?? I think it's awesome!!! It's very silly & I like that! Think about it!!!! I'm confused how you get those letters to stay in the air. ok, i know what a pen light is & i thought a glow stick was just like a nightlight. do you have a picture of that nightstick that writes words in the air??? i wonder if they have them here in Ky? that last one is cool too!!! Are you Italian or Irish? You look like some famous actor (at least from the eyes up! LOL!), but i'm not sure which one yet. i was doing some experimenting yesterday with my cam too! I got a green glow shot but nothing cool like yours. i'm workin' on it now. c-ya!

Yes yes I too agree about the Photo forum one for the forum banner! What a brilliant idea Sheila!! And I really like the third pic here! With the green glow! So psychedelic!

Really cool experiments! Love the Photo Forum shot. I take it you turned off the light pen when you started each letter.

L8RDAZE ( ) posted Thu, 10 March 2005 at 8:11 AM

@Sheila - No special equipment was used to do the lettering. Just used an ordinary writing pen (my kids) with a lightup snowman on the end. The exposure/low shutter setting is was enable ya to capture the light trails, by keeping the lens open for a longer time to grab the motion and light! @Randy - totally dark only light was the pen and glow stick being used. As for the BANNER contest...I was just messin' around! Not sure how to even go about that! But thanks for the idea! Joe

Attached Link: http://www.renderosity.com/contest.ez?contest_id=490

that's too cool, Joe!!!! check out that link for banner contest info. all you'd have to do i guess is resize it? "Entries should be 500 pixels wide and 170 pixels tall. JPEG format at a resolution of 72 Pixels Per Inch." i love it 'cause it's silly, and most of us in the forum seem to be on the silly side!!!! i think it would represent us quite well!!! GO FOR IT!!!!!! :)
