Subject: Where did that figure go?

BAM ( ) posted Mon, 15 January 2001 at 10:45 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 8:04 AM

I am trying to open up .pz3 files (P4 Meta, not Curious Labs) that I have saved previously that have multiple figures (not Michael or Vicki). When the file opens some of the figures show up and some don't. All of the figures are still listed in the drop down menu, however, selecting them does not bring them back. I have also checked to see if they are hidden and tried to do a show all figures, but that doesn't help either. Other files with more figures, created around the same time on the same computer, open fine. Any suggestions or am I going to have to start over? How can I prevent this from happening in the future?

Have you applied the latest Patch from Curious Labs? If not try that. I know it address a number of issues, I think this was one of them. philc_agatha_white_on_black.jpg

Also, remove/rename the Geometry RSRs for those figures that are missing and allow Poser to rebuild them. Do the figures load from the library into a new scene? If not, the above mentioned RSRs could be corrupt. -JH.

How do I figure out which Geometry RSRs apply? All figures in the scene are basically the same with different hair. In the drop down list each has a different figure name (e.g. Figure 1, Figure 2...). I'm in the process of downloading the latest patch

Oh, well if they are the same figure then the RSR isn't the problem. Try importing the PZ3 instead of loading it as a file and see if that helps.

Also check the heirarchy and make sure they're visible.

Loading the latest from Curious labs did not help. Importing instead of opening did not help. Figures 3,4,5,6,7,8,10,13 all seem to be assigned to the same person on the screen, instead of to the person they should be assigned to. I don't know anything about file structure but, I used Wordpad to look at the .pz3 file. Is the following normal or should it be root BODY:10...? figure { name Figure 10 root BODY:13 addChild hip:13 BODY:13

Under Object Properties when selected nothing comes up for figures other than 8 & 11 (Not for figures 2,3,5,6,7,10,13). In the hierarchy editor only figures 8 and 11 show up.

This could be a memory problem. Have you tried closing all applications except poser before opening the file? 14 figures is enough to kill Poser dead ;-)

JeffH ( ) posted Mon, 15 January 2001 at 1:17 PM

Oh yeah, that looks like file corruption. The number should be the same for the figure body and bodyparts.

BAM ( ) posted Mon, 15 January 2001 at 1:46 PM

Okay, I went and looked at the .pz3 file. It had over 6600 pages in it. I tried some search and replace. My head is spinning. If it was just this file I'd start over, but I have others with the same problem. Is there a way to figure out which references need to be changed or some global way of changing it? Any idea how this happened and how I can prevent it from happening in the future?

JeffH ( ) posted Mon, 15 January 2001 at 1:49 PM

I think there were just too many figures in the file for Poser to handle. In the future give each figure a name instead of the default "figure 1,2,3".

BAM ( ) posted Mon, 15 January 2001 at 1:52 PM

Okay, pardon me while I go to my room and cry awhile.

JeffH ( ) posted Mon, 15 January 2001 at 1:59 PM

They file may not be corrupted, but obviously Poser can't handle that many figures. Try renaming the figures that you can access and save the file to a new name. Maybe that will clear up Poser's confusion.
