Simon says: Post an image of a coin or coins So now we can see each others currency, that could be interesting. Any coins are ok either current tender, collectors coins or old coins. I managed to find a Forth Bridge coin (Scottish one pound) especially for you Mike he he! Last thread in link

Just happen to have some in the freezer :D

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

"Knaken" (plural, singular = "knaak") is what we use to call "rijksdaalders" which is the official name for this piece that's worth 2 1/2 dutch guilders. Sadly enough with the introduction of the euro we lost our beautiful money (I my opinion we had the best looking currency in the world). I still have to look at each piece to see what I'm holding whilest in the old days I just flipped open my hand and instantly saw what I had. I WANT THE GUILDERS BACK!!! :D

I saw this thread and ran to my car to retrieve my ashtray. It is my loose coing repository, but I have an alarm on my car so nobody get any ideas...that means you Smugoons! ;] I love all these new quarters that we've been churning out for several years to commemorate the 50 states. It is now fun to look through your coins, not the same old thing all the time. And as a special bonus, they have just release the new Lewis and Clark commemorative nickel, shown at middle right. The coffee bean is in there because they were used as currency at one time. Somewhere...I think. 8] --Kort

btw, those coins are actually special editions. To commemorate the crowning of our current queen (on the right, her mother is on the left), the other is for the "Unie van Utrecht" founded 1579. A union of provinces that resisted the Spanisch occupation

The day Kemal became a U.S. citizen 3 years ago, he received many commemorative coins from my parents. This set shows the first 13 colonies of the U.S. Each coin is different and represents each state/colony. The flag was my gift to Kemal. I took this pic this morning. gonna send it to my folks. Simon, fantastic idea!!! I love seeing all the coins! Richard, why do have coins in your freezer? don't you know that's the FIRST place thieves will look??? LOL :)

Onslow ( ) posted Fri, 11 March 2005 at 12:47 PM

They would be too hot to handle if I kept them in the microwave - lol

This is my 1997 50 pence piece commemorating the Isle Of Man TT races. Since I got it those 8 years ago there have been a couple of times that I have literally been so skint that I could have spent it. Yeah, literally my last 50p. But no, I've held on to it and that's how it's gonna stay.... Kewl topic LP! Onslow, is that what they call freezing your assets? TeePee, you drive a fooking spaceship or summik? Michelle A. ( ) posted Fri, 11 March 2005 at 6:16 PM

My internal clock is set for 7AM so it isn't easy..... one of my kids has to catch to bus at 6:45 so if we're not up by 6 we miss the bus, and I have to drive him, which totally sucks.... And when I had 8Am classes I would have to get up at 5AM so uhhh... so I can relate to the 4:50.... now that is inhumane!

Here's a bunch I had lyin around...from the US... a 1937 Indian head/buffalo nickel & a 1943 silver Mercury dime. Also 1 coin from Panama & another from Hong Kong. Can't remember where I got'em (as I'm not an international traveler!) I have to AGREE with Chelle about US coins...no ooomph and pretty basic when compared with the rest of the world! Some of these have such intricate artwork on them! Joe

tvernuccio ( ) posted Fri, 11 March 2005 at 11:50 PM

ryno, neat shot! This is like coins in outer space. I expect to hear "Also Sprach Zarathustra" as the light hits the edges of the coins. (yeah, I had to look up that one.)

Late... Clockwise from lower right: Croatian five kuna piece back, Slovenian one tolar front, one euro back, and, the blurred one, two British cents (hi, aangus! :-)). Yeah, the background is quite noisy, but didn't want to fiddle in Photoshop too much.
