Sometimes I sit down and come up with a half decent idea for a picture relating to a topic. When I took that picture of our daughter doing the v-sign, this image came into my head also.... but I didn't get the chance to do anything until tonight. Unusually for me I'm happy with the result. Hope you find it disturbing. (",)

Words are effective...as is photo.

The words are so disturbing and the picture so powerful, together... compelling and emotive. Flopsy.

Excellent Image for this Topic :]

Thanks for the comments, peeps - your encouragement means lots to me ;-) I suprised myself with this one, it actually took longer to get the flipping photo without her laughing than it did to do the postwork - and most of that was editing the school logo off her jumper. This was a really strange one for me, because as soon as I got this shot I stopped, knowing it was the most useable out of the ones I'd took. As I did the actual effects I already had a picture of the image in my mind, and it went together so well and so fast.....and while I can easily spend 3/4hr to an hour playing with text fonts this was my third selection....total postworking time less than quarter of an hour. Hopefully I'm getting back into the swing of things and this is the start of things to come. (",)

Erm...sorry to say that but when I read the text on the image it made me laugh! I thought u meant it as a joke! A surely great photo though, but more effective for me without the text! I love the B&W here! And ur daughter is gorgeous!

Tibby! How heartless!!! I bet you laughed at ET when he died, too...... (",)

This is a pretty disturbing image..... so you did the black eye in PS? Really well done! And by the way she is cute as a button.... meant to say that before in the V post but forgot..... she must take after her mum!

I am, therefore I create.......

lol - oh, gee Shell, thanks....you really know how to make a guy feel good about himself! The black eye was done with make-up, but when I made the pic mono it barely showed...as it is here it is quite heavily enhanced in PS. Apart from that postwork was removing the school logo from her jumper and burning section of the image to get the shadowed effects. (",)

LMAO!! Actually, I cried my eyes out when ET died!! As for the black eye, I must admit that I didn't even notice it! Can see it now though!

we've become complacent about issues like this...maybe its because we can't face the amount of tragedy around us and hide our heads from the truth?...good picture and submission!

I think this is excellent. As a Social Worker for many years, I have had the opportunity to view more "awareness" posters and flyers than I care to. The fact is, none really had much impact. Your photo and text is awesome. I hope more people have the opportunity to see and feel it. J

ReBorneUK ( ) posted Sat, 19 March 2005 at 7:08 PM

Wackie, thank you. When I did it, I was more self-impressed with coming up with the punchline than anything else... After reading comments like yours I start to think I've stumbled upon something. Frankly, I'm amazed it's never been done before... with the amount of time and money charities spend on advertising campaigns surely someone cleverer than me has thought of it somewhere?!? (".)
