Pedrith in answer to questions 1 and 2 i can not help you with them. Now for question 3. the files you download from sci-fi 3d are they in .lwo, .3ds or one of their other file formats.
The only files you will be able to import from that site are the .3ds files unless you use another program to convert one of the others over to either .3ds or .obj.
Make sure that when you import the files you use file/import object then save the model into your create/ user library. PS: the link i posted is for a program called Accutrans. it can convert most file formats over to ones that can be imported into bryce.

I have opinions of my own -- strong
opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.
When you've made your path, select it, click the triangle by 'Create', choose the 'Paths' section and click 'Add'. It's the same for any object you have in Bryce.
Dunno, I've never been able to get it to work either. Other people have but it's never that impressive IMO. Better to fake it with a 2D import, make your own in Photoshop etc.
asp is a webpage format - it looks like you've saved the web page that linked to the model, rather than the model itself. See if you can open it with your web browser. If I'm right, you'll need to go back and download the actual model.
PS Go to the appropriate gallery page (e.g. Bryce) and click the 'Upload' link at the top of the page. You'll find instructions there. You just need to upload images and your gallery will be created automatically.
Good luck,
cam

Question 3: If you are downloading using a DownloadManager like FlashGet or GetRight disable them. Due to various reasons which I wont get into here, some websites redirect you to another page via an .ASP Code which has the actual download and Download Managers get confused and endup downloading the .ASP Page which is not the file itself but one of the websites files.
I am currectly having the same problem d/ling from Sctfi3d. I USE acctrans or wahtever the program is called. Imprt in accutrans (all formats) load file Export as an .obj file Tried to OPEN (MOST) of those AND the files DO NOT LOOK like the pics on the D/L page, but anyway, if anyone has a BUNCH of SW models please send them to joeyhoover@yahoo.com Thanks!!! For Bryce that is....
I don't know from MACs, but in several browsers, you can right-click on the icon of what you want, and select 'save target as'..which works for me. I also think some of the later .3ds or .lwo might be incompatible with Bryce, but haven't played with them enough to be sure..
I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Q3 - Part of the problem is that these are .ZIP files that need to be decompressed first . Took me a little while (I'd never D/L'ed from this site before) but here's how I got it to work using OS10.3.7 and IE 5.2 The .asp file comes in on the desk top - move it to any folder. Rename the file with a .zip extension. Drag this onto Stuffit Expander. This should give you a folder named as above with the .3DS file inside, which can be loaded into Bryce. Really weird that changing the extension on the desk top didn't work.
Safari downloads them fine with the correct filename and .zip extension. IE sucks. As usual, it's a Microsoft problem ;-) Internet explorer also uses a lot more processor power when idle, is slower, and crashes. Yipee. Safari has a built in google search, is less cluttered, faster, far more stable, has a bookmarks bar for your most popular bookmarks, will have RSS capabilties in its next release, and hey, it even downloads stuff right!
gees i use IE, have done for 6 years now. Never had any problems downloading stuff and the only times i have had problems with IE was because i was either doing something at the time that froze my computer up..oh that was on my old 486 which i still have and use for things like word processing.
I have opinions of my own -- strong
opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Hi. I'm a long time Brycer, but I have three questions which I would really like answered. 1) If I make an animation (say the camera flys through a canyon) is there any way to save the camera's motion path as a preset, so that I could go back and use the same path to have a ship fly through the canyon? 2) I just started playing with Bryce on my G5 Imac and I'm trying to render some outerspace scenes, but no matter what settings I set the starfield to I get no stars. Plus I have not installed the 5.01 patch yet (do you think this would help? 3) Everytime I try and import something I downloaded from Sci-fi 3d it says that the format is invalid. I changed the name extention from the default download.asp to jedistarfighter.3ds but to no effect. I even tried to open the file in Wings3d but it also says that the file format is invalid. Help me Bryce Forum you're my only hope. On the plus side I found my original receipt for Bryce 5 (from 2001) incase Daz did not get my information from the "evil" Corel Corps. Thanks everyone. Pedrith P.S. How do i go about setting up a gallery page at the old renderosity forum?
