Subject: Hold on, I just don't get it!

ReBorneUK ( ) posted Wed, 16 March 2005 at 5:09 PM ยท edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 2:46 PM

I've just skimmed back through the gallery a few days and saw a picture with 128 viewings and over 40 comments.... and it's a photo of a Dali picture!?! I hope it's a photo, anyways.... I could scan the same image from a book and post it with very little difference.... I'm sorry, but WHAT am I missing out on here? Is the artist just a REALLY popular person? Is taking photo's of a picture (if it was a photo of the original - I can't read French) such a finely-tuned art that it deserves such rank and appraisal? nope, soz, I can't come up with ANYTHING that makes it deserving, not when there's so much original work that has taken Thought and Preperation.... and got about 20 hits. FFS, I even think T&A is more deserving than this! Damn, I wished it breached copyright so it could be pulled, even if it's just for my personal evil villification! Grrr. (",)

lol - I begrudge it the extra hits, TBH!! Looking at that and the next in the series, it IS a picture of the actual painting in the museum. Even so....

ryno ( ) posted Wed, 16 March 2005 at 5:53 PM

I don't get it either, but then I really can't understand half the pictures that get lots of comments and ratings including some of mine!

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Wed, 16 March 2005 at 5:53 PM

Ah yes! I know which one u're referring to! I didn't know it actually was a picture! It looks like a staged scene to me! Didn't know that one from Dali! I guess that's why I was impressed with it! Surely the number of hits is from ignorants people like me! :( I confess!

cynlee ( ) posted Wed, 16 March 2005 at 5:58 PM

oh... i thought it was a pic of the gallery & it was a 3D display with 2 paintings on the wall... & a real guy behind the curtain... humph

Michelle A. ( ) posted Wed, 16 March 2005 at 6:04 PM

Funny thing is..... I never even looked at this one in the gallery..... saw the thumb of lips.... thought it was something silly and passed it by.....

I am, therefore I create.......

Yes, exactly!! That's what I thought too! A staged scene! Oh well! That makes 2 ignorants here for sure! ;P Sorry Cyndi!

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Wed, 16 March 2005 at 6:05 PM

LOL@Michelle!!

LostPatrol ( ) posted Wed, 16 March 2005 at 6:22 PM ยท edited Wed, 16 March 2005 at 6:23 PM

I done the same as Michelle, I see you dont pull your pushes Mike lol. Must admit I dont get it either, there are as you say many more very worthy images that hardly get a look in. Im not sure if it is a photo of a picture or a photo of a scene, if the latter then it has merit, but if the former then there is little creativity about it. It is all so subjective I guess, I have posted stuff that I think was at best average and that have done well yes some that I consider to be good hardly get any attention at all. Just goes to show what I know Finally I guess the title alone attracted a fair few hits, and Dali fans would most likely have commented, had I clicked the thumb I doubt I would have commented. Not gonna say anything else cause I will get in trouble again Flippin spell checker.

cindy, i thought the same like you.

cynlee ( ) posted Wed, 16 March 2005 at 10:41 PM

like LP i don't want to say too much... photos of street murals is one thing but photos of paintings, no frame? what do i comment on? someone else's painting? noooooo :/

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Wed, 16 March 2005 at 10:42 PM

Yea, I definitely don't see the point either!!

ReBorneUK ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 3:23 AM

Phew. When I posted this thread I thought, oh, bugger, this is gonna be running over a minefield... I'm gonna get some flak..... Glad to see common sense still prevails in the forum at least ;-) (",) @LP : It's not so much not pulling my punches, it's just I'm too damn impulsive.... by the time I read all those fawning, ass-licking comments I was mad!!!

Zacko ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 8:51 AM

Hmmmm...i soooo need to learn how to speak french (or do I???) I was as ignorant as both Cindy and Pascale....or even more so...becaue i didnt even notice that Dali connection, LOL. Im so unculturized (spellcheck the swede will ya).

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

LostPatrol ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 5:35 PM

marybelgium ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 5:36 PM

Salvator Dali called this threedimensional creation "Marilyn Monroe". But he was a surrealist, so it is true you need a funny imagination to discover the MM in there, but that is who it is supposed to be. You have to climb up the camel , look through a lense and than you see the face !...I took the photo at the Dali's Museum at Figueres (Spain) and it is not a photo from a photo or a photo from a painting !!!

ReBorneUK ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 5:44 PM

Mary, I thought the original was called Mae West not Marylin?? And I apologise for my misinterpretation, I have seen pictures of this previously and always thought it was a painting - it will teach me to read the comments in books and not just look at the pictures! (Playboy excepted) :o btw, nice speaking to you earlier, and I hope the rest of the forum enjoy your gallery as much as I do :) It would be nice to see you as a regular in here too, now that you have found us! Take care. Mike

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 6:11 PM

AH!!! So Cyndi and I were right after all!!! It IS a staged scene or, as Cyndi called it a "3D display with 2 paintings on the wall"! I'm glad!! :D Tss tss, Mickey, really!!

ryno ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 6:16 PM

Ah... I just love happy endings:}

well thank goodness we got that cleared up! :] thank you Mary & I do like your photo... enough to put the Dali museum on my travel itinerary!

Zacko ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 11:04 PM

Dala made some chairs that look like lips too. He was going to mass produce these chairs but never did. or was it a love chairs?

what you see is not what you know; it in your face

marybelgium ( ) posted Sat, 19 March 2005 at 4:40 AM

The lips at the museum is a sofa !

ReBorneUK ( ) posted Sat, 19 March 2005 at 10:44 AM

On a similar ilk, The 'Alien' style chairs Giger made are pretty cool too. At one point I fancied making sh!tloads of paper mache and turning the rafters of my garage into 'Alien' style beams... rofl, I come up with some DUMB ideas!!! (",)
