Ok, just had to share this with all of you...... Just check out the link and read the discussion and my reply to it. I just got an email by DAZ because of my reply: *Benjamin, Promoting Vue on the DAZ website in direct competition to a DAZ product is not acceptable. Please refrain from further promotion of Vue and posting of links to the Vue website. Darlisa Riggs DAZ Forum Administrator/Moderator* Is DAZ afraid of something? Do they know that Bryce will never catch up with Vue anymore. Do they think they can stop people from finding out about Vue? FYI, DAZ is selling both Vue 4 and Vue 4 Pro and there are numerous other post in their forums promoting Vue, wonder if all of them get an email by DAZ? I do find it very hypocritical to sell Vue in your store and on the other hand telling others not to promote it. Always thought that DAZ is a strange company......

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

shrug

DAZ might have a problem with Vue.....but I seriously doubt that they are "afraid" of it. It's competition for them. I wouldn't blame them for directing attention away from it. Most businesses would do the same.

Renderosity is rare, in that they don't raise any objections to having links to other commercial sites posted in their forums. Or even out-right advertisements for stuff sold elsewhere.

((Hardly the act of a bunch of "censors", BTW. But that's OT to the topic of this OT thread.))

However -- DAZ can set their own forum rules in any manner that they choose. It's their site. From what I understand of the matter, DAZ's forums are supposed to be strictly dedicated to talking about DAZ products.

Given those rules and conditions, one can choose to participate in their forums.....or not.

Frankly, dragging dirty laundry over from another site isn't the best idea. For a number of reasons.

DAZ sells Vue......true. But I suspect that more is going on here than just DAZ's view of Vue........ Time to call it a night.

However -- DAZ can set their own forum rules in any manner that they choose." I do agree and disagree with you. Actually, it's not stated in the DAZ TOS that one cannot do what I did (unless I've overlooked it). Sounds more like some moderator is creating his/her own rules. If DAZ wants this to be a forum rule, they at least have to put in in the TOS...... how else would I know about it. From what I understand of the matter, DAZ's forums are supposed to be strictly dedicated to talking about DAZ products. That is not stated in their TOS is it? Just read through the TOS, but that's not the purpose of the DAZ forums at all.

aeilkema , I second what Xenophonz said.... There's 'de jure' and then there is 'de facto.' It might not be stated in the TOS (de jure) but it is more or less implied in the general situation of the Daz formums that you (as Xenophonz put it so well above) should not be "dragging dirty laundry over from another site"(de facto.) You probably should have picked up on this understood position' ahead of time. ::::: Opera :::::

"You probably should have picked up on this understood position' ahead of time." Yes of course, we MUST know what is in the head of each DAZ moderator. ;) aeilkema, I think you hit the nail on the head: Sounds more like some moderator is creating his/her own rules. Megalodon

"Yes of course, we MUST know what is in the head of each DAZ moderator. ;)" Were in the world did I leave that book about mind reading, sounds like I need to brush up on my mind reading skills! I can't recall, perhaps the lessons had a negative influence on my mind somehow 8-)

no..........not mind reading, just common sense and common decency. :::: og :::::

megalodon ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 2:34 AM

In YOUR opinion. Since DAZ sells Vue, WHY would it be common sense to think it's wrong to advocate it? It's NOT. There was nothing wrong with promoting Vue since they sell it. If aeilkema were to say "buy Vue, Bryce sucks" then yeah, he would be wrong. Common sense and common decency? I think not. It is your opinion - please do not expect the rest of us to subscribe. You of course can go into a lengthy explanation of WHY it is common sense and I can do so with the opposite opinion. Let us just agree to disagree and leave it at that. Megalodon

Maybe it also had to do with some of your other postings in the bryce forum over there and not just that last one ;)

Promoting other companies products on said companys forum is not looked highly upon and shoudnt of course, that is common sense.

But when someone asks a questions (as they did in my case when i got warned) wondering about a proffesional landscape application in this case bryce and if it would hold its ground as a pro landscape application, i think its common sense and decensy to tell that person that well bryce is fine and capable but if youre looking for a pro landscape application i would check out v5(as in infinite nowadays) if you can afford it.

Now daz didnt agree with me so ive simply refrained from posting ever since, They do not want us telling ppl to compare bryce and vue unless that person have specificly asked about a comparision between bryce and vue, and i can respect that, even tho i think that if someone is asking if bryce is good enough to be labeled a pro landscape application it in itself requires ppl to compare it to vue, because in my opinion v5I is a pro landscape application and as such way ahead of bryce.

But when the company in question dont agree well just have to respect that, end of story realy but no i doubt daz is afraid of something, its just a case of being to narrowminded(in my opinion) afterall theres still a big difference in price so people realy should be allowed to make up their own mind, but its their forum and well have to respect their opinions.

LOL!! I remember in old day when I had Bryce. I never heard about Vue before and I complained alot about some of poor functions in Bryce until someone msg'd me about Vue. I immediately bought Vue. It has alot of useful functions that I need for animation; wind dynamics, material, eco, GI, HDRI, many more..... I have confident in e-on that they will add some useful tools in it in future such as liquid dynamics for ocean or boat on water. Bryce could have those add-ons in past but they had some internal office problems with programmer team.
