Subject: The one thing I see missing from P6...

... is any sort of improvment to the parameter dials!!!!

It's one of the more difficult UI object I have ever used.

I use the dials for general posing then fine tune by entering the numbers... What would be an impovement? Seriously...I hear complaints about it but what would be better?

Personally I think the dials in Poser are easier to use than the ones in DAZ|Studio...

I like the dials in poser, but then again I like everything in poser so my opinion is very bias'd 8-)

"What would be an impovement? " A way of seperating them into more managable units, i.e. a "nose" tab contianing all nose morphs etc.

i accutally find them easy to use, the only improvement I would suggest would be a snap to feature that would reduce mouse juggle a bit and perhaps a stepping feature to make big leaps (like by whole numbers, or even 10s) I use the dials for everything I find the 'click and drag' method goes haywire to easily.

You can seperate dials into groups in Poser 5. 1) Click on the flyout arrow at the top right of the paramater palette. 2) Select Create New Group. 3) Pick a name and click OK. The new group is created empty. 4) Drag any other dial on to the new group name and it will be placed within the group. Groups can themselves be nested within groups by dragging. To drag a dial, you have to start to the right of the dial itself. To select several dials, Ctrl click. Save the new figure back to the figure library and the new dial groupings will be saved with it.

One slight problem with this is that the hidden dials all then appear, but this is actually an advantage - you can then organise these hidden dials, and when you do inject them the working morphs are still organised in your groups

JohnRickardJR ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 3:45 PM

Even better, if you then use Dial Cleaner to tidy up the character, the hidden dials remain in their groups, ready to be injected. You'll notice a 'Dial Magic' product on the Daz website, which does a similar thing via poses

Poser 5 allows that. Check out the morph dials for Don or Judy sometime.

That is one of the things I really like about Don and Judy - the way the morph dials are organized. I wish more people did it that way, but since P4 and PP don't support it, they don't.

Someone did make a free V3 CR2 that divided up the morphs by group, like Judy has. I think it may be out of date now, though, since DAZ has changed the morphs several times.

Gareee ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 6:17 PM

I divided up the morphs in the power pixie, and P5 users seemed quite pleased by it. I think though, when products are bundled like this, that when they are loading in P4, the dials just kind of choose thier own random listing.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

JohnRickardJR: " You can seperate dials into groups in Poser 5." Arrgghhh!!! AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!! I can't believe I've missed this all this time!!! Thank you so much! My fingers are very happy!!! This app is SO much more usable to me now. Seriously, thanks for the tip.

I wish the dials values could be nudged with arrow keys.

Must admit, I only got the grouping to work properly myself recently - I kept getting empty groups and couldn't see how to move dials. I must go clean up all of my figures now - I've done V3's face morphs now, and it's amazing how much easier things got. If you look at the P5 figures, their morphs are already organised - one of the best things about them.

I like the idea (like photoshp) of nudgeing them with the arrow keys. It's also be nice to have a sertting of ho much of a nudge you can do with them.
