Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 09 3:34 pm)

Subject: 10 AM PST

The countdown has started. For those of us who could not even wait for UPS overnight delivery. I am actually so obsessed that I am putting off switching from Cable to DSL until after my Poser 6 download. Here is my question. How many of you out there have been using Poser 6 as Beta testers for months now (if any)? Are we going to see a nice flood of P6 renders tomorrow when the cats are out of the bag and the gag orders have been lifted with regards to renders and reports. It seems that is what occurred with the Vue 5I when most people were waiting for their shipments many Beta testers had weeks of images ready to post (not that there is anything wrong with that it was great to see them all at once). It would be a great marketing strategy to get a bunch of Beta testers that post here and allow them to begin posting all at once on the release date of the new version of the software. Just when it became available we would see dozens of images in the gallery. I think I will go home for lunch and see if the download is available. I wonder if Poser addicts across the time zones where people are typically at work are going to have a massive sick out tomorrow as they try to secure some of that extra bandwidth Curios Labs promised before the 9-5ers get home. Anyhow have fun, this is a new experience for many of us.

Hehehehehe, so we want to flood EVERYONE'S servers, huh? LOL

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 20 March 2005 at 7:57 PM

Sickout? Nah. They'll just download from work. I suspect most people have faster connections at work than at home.

tlaloc321 ( ) posted Sun, 20 March 2005 at 8:45 PM

oh very good randym77 - I would fear the network going down just as the download is at 99% and not being able to reset it on Curious Labs end until all the other downloads have finished. Sort of a download purgatory.

Just take a couple blank CD's to work and DL on the office T-3 connection...

stealing bandwidth from the company!?! how could we!?! My cable regularly clocks at 3.7 Mbps wich beats the T1 at my lame work network of 1.5 I am reluctant to switch to DSL but its way cheaper. Happy downloading everyone.

'Curios Labs'. Another entry for my collection of great Freudian keyboard slips.

Re 'massive sickout' of Poser users. If it happens probably no one will notice. It's scary to think that anyone would give people like us Poser users jobs with any responsibility.

Let the server crashes begin. LOL. ;)

I'll have to wait for the box. Perhaps some nice winged lady will fly it to me.

Vue Infinite and P6. This is the first year that I can recall having Christmas in March.

YES myself as well, just did the V5I order last night - might get it by next Xmas what do you think?

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Sun, 20 March 2005 at 11:08 PM

Upgrading to V5I was a breeze. And might I say that it looks to be a well spent $149 (+shipping)! Now if I could only convince 'Curios Labs' to take my money, I'd be happy. Something occurred to me the other day. Why is it that I cannot order using my serial number, yet I have received every email from Curious Labs - the one for the 'coupon', one for the release of Poser6, the one about the special pricing for "Early Adopters"? That just seems contradictory.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Just checked the CL site for the download size - it is huge! Can anyone recommend a good free download manager? With my slow broadband I've worked out a download time of around six hours!

aeilkema ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 4:31 AM

Were did you find the download size? I've been looking for it, but don't seem to find it at all....

My company pays 1200 per month for a dedicated 2mb lease line. My home Cable line is 2mb and I pay 24.99 a month. :-)

philebus ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 4:41 AM

On the purchase screen there is a link called 'important note before purchasing download version' - or at least words to that effect. Its a 698mb file so on my 300kps connection I'm looking at about 6hrs hence my need of a download manager - I don't get paid till Thursday, so I need a free download manager to help reduce that a bit.

jarm ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 4:45 AM

Put 'getright' into Google, should do the trick, it has a demo mode of a number of days.

philebus ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 4:47 AM

Thanks jarm, I'll give it a go and try not to sit in front of the computer ALL day waiting for the email to go get it!

aeilkema ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 4:48 AM

Found it, thanks! I'm on an 800kbps dsl connection, so it should take me less then 3hrs.... under normal conditions. Doubt that there will be normal conditions though ;-)

I must admit if I get the e-mail here at work I'll probably download it if there's time to burn it to CD before end of day. It'll be interesting to see how quickly it grinds to a halt, that's assuming if it gets released at all today. It was an expected release date after all. Here's praying the Fat Pipe doesn't go down :-) best wishes Jody

"that's assuming if it gets released at all today. It was an expected release date after all." You must have missed an email from CL, it's not expected anymore, but official. Here are parts of the email: "Release Date Poser 6 Special Edition is scheduled to begin shipping on March 21, 2005 to our Digital River fulfillment centers. Download Preorders Electronic download orders are scheduled to begin processing at approximately 9AM PST on March 21, 2005. Customers should begin receiving confirmation emails with their Poser 6 download details as the orders are processed, but it will take some time to process all the preorders, so please be patient if you do not receive an email right away. We expect all download preorders to be processed within 24-48 hours. Note: We have secured additional bandwidth to accommodate the anticipated volume of downloads in our Web Stores during the first few days after release. However, please be patient if you experience difficulty with your download, and try again during off-peak hours before contacting customer service."

It's a scam! They've taken our money and ran! Guess they're just updating. The downloads aren't provided by them anyway, but by Digital River as far as I understood.
