Subject: Vue 3 -> 5 material question

Hello A friend told me Vue5 can not read Vue3 material files and there is no way to convert them but to put them into Vue 4 first. Is that true ? I have Vue3 items in the marketplace. That would mean no Vue 5 user could use them.

Not unless they have Vue4(to convert)....There is a converter that comes with Vue...but is not supported by Vue(3rd party plug). But I have heard no reports of success only disasters, myself included....Destroyed around 1000 mats. But I had them all on backup. That is correct...No V5 user will be able to utilize V3 textures.

I had only minor successes with that converter software. The best way is to open your materials in Vue 4 and save them either into a Vue 4 scene or as Vue 4 materials. Vue 4 is available for free in some magazines. You might even be able to do this using the Vue 4 demo available for download for free (although I have not tried it myself).

Vue 4 is available for free??? Where? I would love to point some friends to that.

Wasn't there a free version in a magazine a while ago ? or maybe it was Vue 3 now I am thinking of it ....

Yeah Laurent, i think it was Vue 3. V4 is the special steal from e-on. $69 i think. With a wonderful advertising image :-))))

heyas; so i got my whole mountain materials and stuff into my vue 5, here, and when i go to that material library, it jumps up and tells me: 'hey, i dont like that, convert it or get rid of it!' so i go, okay... i saw this conversion thing somewhere... so i run that and point it at my landscape material directory, expecting (haha!) it to convert my old materials. but what happens is, an empty "!" dialogue box pops up. many times. am i doing this right? it says 'scene' converter, not material and object and plant converter.... ::wandering around, scratching head::

A good start to walk around and scratch head. But i think it will not really help. Vue 5 can read Vue 4 stuff but not older one. So the problem is the Vue 3 things you still want to use. The best and almost only solution is to open the things in Vue 4 and save them there again. As simple as that. The converter not always does what the intention is - as we can see in a lot of threads here in the forum.
