Subject: P6 first impressions - let me have 'em here:

Penguinisto ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 9:44 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 10:26 AM

...or has anyone got it downloaded yet? I'm actually interested in what normal users have to say about it. Plz deposit all your opinions here - performance (compared to P5, P4/PPP), render speeds, features you like/don't like, etc. Thx in advance, /P

Likos ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 9:47 AM

Please post your platform as well. (win/mac)

ramhernan ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 9:49 AM

Buyed, but no download link to date :(

If it looks as mere real life, then it don't worth the effort.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 9:52 AM

...and some hardware specs would be nice, too :) Thx, /P

Netherworks ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 9:55 AM

I'd be happy to if you consider me normal (?) I fully intend to dig right in and be very unbiased about it. What shines I want to post about and what is sub-par I would also post about. I have PP/P5 and my wife has P4 (which I used before) so I should be able to get a decent comparison going. It's only 7:53 PST, so it will probably be an hour or two longer before i even see a confirmation email - if it isn't longer than that. I'm on the fastest home cable line I can get here, so it shouldn't take long to dl.

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 10:05 AM

It still says "Pending Shipment" on my DL page. I bet there's some developers and people sweating blood right now trying to get that package together in time. I know what it feels like, lol. Strictly speaking, they don't have to get it out until about 15 hours from now - and it would still be considered released the correct day. Since I'm in Europe I guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow. :] Fish

artistheat ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 10:09 AM

I'm still waiting to recieve a shipping date...Has anyone recieved a shipping date?..It would be good to hear that they are going out...Looking out the window for the UPS Man...LOL...

jwiest ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 10:32 AM

I just purchased mine Sat nite, so I'm sure it'll be weeks before I see it...at least if what others have said about first come first shipped, etc. is true. In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing what some of the DL users have to say.

John

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 10:43 AM

Apparently release is 9 am today, Pacific time. Which is really soon.... :] Fish

Berserga ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 10:49 AM

What I most want to hear about is how well the GL preview works, specifically with animation. Will the playback speed in GL mode actually be anywhere close to the rendered animation speed now?

dlk30341 ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 10:50 AM

I want to know about multiple un-do's :)

tbird10 ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 10:51 AM

I received an update e-mail a couple of days ago confirming that packages will start shipping on the 21st, taking between 5 and 7 working days to reach the Digital River distributuin centres. Shipping times from there would then depend on the option chosen (2 day delivery etc.) So I am expecting at least another two weeks before I see my boxed package. :-(

tbird10 ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 10:52 AM

Eeek ! Of course that should read distribution (brain working faster than fingers again)

Netherworks ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 11:02 AM

er, don't think it's in there, dlk30341, from reading RDNA's P6 forum.

dlk30341 ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 11:11 AM

:( to Netherworks..oh well, maybe next time

Netherworks ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 11:24 AM

It does seem, though, that they did get a lot of other wants in there. Just so you know, I would've liked that too. :)

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 11:31 AM
  • But still nothing available. It used to say "Pending Shipment", it now says "Fulfilled". Which I am NOT since I haven't yet had a chance to DL it :o( Let's hope this is highly temporary. :] Fish

jarm ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:04 PM

Yeah I'm getting fulfilled too, I am, however, less than fulfilled :-)

lucstef ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:04 PM

"It used to say "Pending Shipment", it now says "Fulfilled"" Mine too. Perhaps they're allowing three or four buyers at a time to download it, not to break down their servers ;-) Luca

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:22 PM

Which means we're getting real close :o) Do a "View Invoice" and you'll see it there. :] Fish

thefixer ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:24 PM
Online Now!

I've ordered the Box version so I don't get it just yet!! Bummer :-(

Injustice will be avenged.

Netherworks ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:25 PM

"Perhaps they're allowing three or four buyers at a time to download it, not to break down their servers" That wouldn't work - not everyone is going to download immediately (all of us, nonwithstanding). People are out doing normal things like working, baking cookies, throwing hand-grenades in city park...

.

TamiL ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:28 PM

Mine shows the serial and says order complete and fulfilled too...........now where is it???? Netherworks said: That wouldn't work - not everyone is going to download immediately (all of us, nonwithstanding). People are out doing normal things like working, baking cookies, throwing hand-grenades in city park... yea right!!! Not just sitting here checking our emails every 30 seconds!!! LOL

lucstef ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:30 PM

Just a question Fish: when did you preordered? I have no serial neither in View Invoice nor in Re-Download Order for P6 :-? Anyway, if the 680Mb size I've heard is correct, I doubt I can install it today, not even tomorrow, even if I have a 1.2 mb/s line...you people on the other side of the Ocean are big bandwidth consumers :-D Luca

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:32 PM

And I'm DLing the 698MB file at about 1.2 Mbps right now. Woohoo! :] Fish

lucstef ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:32 PM

GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just when I was writing, they updated the download screens... Now I just have to wait for the 698 mb of data to be here :-D Too bad we can't use smilies in a simple way, just insert a dancing smilye here :-DDD Luca

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:33 PM

lucstef, I ordered on Friday. Hey Peng, sorry we hijacked your thread here - you better start a new one in a little while lol! :] Fish

TamiL ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:36 PM

??? mine says 715 mbs, weird.

Likos ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:40 PM

DL @ 144k sec. Hey is there a content CD also? I only have one CD @ 702.6M (mac)

TamiL ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 12:44 PM

I don't see a content cd either and my speed has dropped from 1.5 mbs down to 362 kbs here! But then again the kids are playing on the net too....

Netherworks ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 1:03 PM

Got It! does a dance Downloaded in 22 minutes.

HAWK999 ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 1:05 PM

Getting mine right now

nghayward ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 1:09 PM

My order page says "suppressed" rather than "fullfilled" or "pending". Has/Is anyone else getting this or should I be worried?

Likos ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 1:27 PM

nghayward, They are probably rolling a certain amount out at a time. To try to keep the traffic manageable and all. I would give it some time and try again.

martians ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 1:31 PM

Mine says "suppressed" too. With the order status as "authorization failed". What authorization is that? They already billed my credit card, as I got the Poser 5+6 deal. Maybe some attempt to spread the downloads, or are they setting up downloads on a first come, first served basis?

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 1:49 PM

Guys - reload and reload the page. In the end you'll get it updated and it'll look right. :] Fish

nghayward ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 2:03 PM · edited Mon, 21 March 2005 at 2:03 PM

At last the wait is over :) I don't know about "suppressed" i was beginning to get depressed ;)

akura_ ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 3:30 PM

I bought it as a shipable. As soon as I get it, I'll post some images made with it in my gallery, but I well not tell which is what.

kaveman ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 3:43 PM

Downloading now... 6 hours, 6 minutes remaining

martians ( ) posted Mon, 21 March 2005 at 4:23 PM

Well, got a confirmation mail and it downloaded fine, although I had to resume the download several times. But where is the serial number??? It is not in the invoice, not in either VAT invoice, not in the order details and not in the confirmation mail! Does Curious Labs/Digital River have some other account history other than findmyorder.com? :-(

Got it! at least: 4 and half hours, not too bad for a mere cable modem connection :)) Now is time to see the flaws LOL i mean the enhacements! but for now i just burn the CD and prepare the whole ritual for a more quiet moment! Good look to everyone!

If it looks as mere real life, then it don't worth the effort.
