Subject: Poser unit size changed in Poser 6?

Ian Porter ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 7:15 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 4:17 AM

From the P6 readme at the CL site:- In previous Poser versions, Poser Native Units were sometimes handled inconsistently. In Poser 6, one Poser Native Unit always is the equivalent of 8.6 feet or 262.128 centimetres. Poser 5 had this size of native unit, which was changed to 8.0 feet in SR1. It would seem to have been changed back to 8.6 feet, and 'cast in stone'. Can anyone with P6 compare the heights of the older and new figures? I get a feeling of Deja Vu somehow... Please let's not start a row over what size a unit 'ought' to be, I just want to check if the old and new figure heights are comparable. Ian

waves at Doc Hi Doc, I'm fine, I've not been around here for about twelve months until recently. I found that I was getting really frustrated owing to slooow dial up connections, so I took a break and did some other things. The announcement of P6, and availability of broadband access in my area rekindled my interest. How are you doing? I like your daily chuckles a lot! Cheers Ian

I jusyt find myself wondering why the heck there needed to be a change. 8 feet made some sense. Geep's 100 inches makes sense. But this new scale doesn't make sense in any system I know of. It isn't a simple multiple of any real unit. So the old figures are 93$ of their previous height? 6ft to 5ft 6in, or thereabouts. Was somebody getting intimidated by Vicky?

I thought NaySay had a Nimrod? (or was that "is a Nimrod?")...

Has the unit actually changed, or just how they define it? If you import a P4 box that is 1 Poser unit square is a different size than a P6 box that size? If not it is a tempest in a tea cup, everything will stay the same size, some will still think 1 Poser unit = 96", some 100", some (now) 103.2". How tall do you want Vickie to be? ;-) Incidently, 1 Poser unit = 1 Max unit, anyway.

re: " ... Incidently, 1 Poser unit = 1 Max unit, anyway. " Yup ... and, also, 1.000 Wavefront .obj(ect) Unit ... as it always has. ;=]
