Subject: Update or wait

Okay, am new to Poser, only have had it for about two weeks. Question as I read down through the problems you all are having, should I install my update to 6 or should I wait until the patch is complete for the problems there are now? Im scared! shakes

Since you must not have had time to really learn Poser yet, I think you should install P6 now. Then follow the topics that interest you in here and you'll be able to learn Poser with all the comments P6 users are posting and will continue to post in the following days... weeks... maybe even months. OH france, you are scaring me. LOLOL...Poser makes me lie awake at night as it is! From all the problems I am seeing, I can tell a major headache is on the way!

Well, if you have Poser 5, then go ahead and install six that way you won't learn "crappy" hair room and stuff like that. Better to learn the new now than try to unlearn what you have learned. -WTB

well, since you'll probably find almost as many issues in P5 (not that it's a bad piece of software, far from it. every peice of software has issues, just ask microsponge) I'd install P6. Hell that's what I'm going to do when I win the free P6 copy from here *positive thoughts ;) * Since there is a bit of a learning curve involved with any new software by the time you get to the high end stuff (where the bugs usually lie) there should be patches out. And don't stress. Go see Dr Geep if you need help, it's P4 but most should still apply.

P4,P5,P6....please please, you are driving me insane. I just learned how to do the mat thing....took me just as long as I have had the program...2 weeks. That is how thick I am, now, give me PSP and I can do anything with it, I create my own brushes, textures and make some cool stuff, this 3d thing is enough to drive anybody nuts. I did however, manage to get a few things made, but not good enough as I want them to be. I will install it later, but one question... When I hit the button to install, do I create 6 all on its own, or overwrite 5? I dont want to lose anything I have hasseled over to get working now...advice please?

I didn't intend to scare you at all. What I meant was exactly what WTB told you in post #4:

Better to learn the new now than try to unlearn what you have learned.

In other words, why bother to learn P5 since you are going to upgrade to P6 soon and that this is the good time to learn about P6 since lots of experienced Poser users are and will post lots of interesting things about Poser6.;o)

Oh I know France, Its just like any new program you get, I just want to learn so fast, that its driving me crazy. Took me awhile to get used to PSP, now.. I will get it all eventually, only hope I can compare to some of the great stuff I have seen all of you do. Still wondering about installing, do I create new or overwrite 5?

Francemi ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 2:52 PM

I think you should ask that question in a new topic. I wouldn't know. And I would bookmark your topic because I wouldn't know for myself either when I finally get my box version of Poser6. ;o)

P6 doesn't overwrite 5

I would also install P6 as well. It will be faster, and you won't have to learn about many of the issues we've all had to overcome and work around and find fixes for over the last few years. I think when you see how much faster P6 responds, and how much easier it is in some ways, you'll not regret it.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

P6 doesn't overwrite 5

Yes I know but if you bought the upgrade from Poser5 version, is it still a full program or you have to install over P5?

Thanks.

I say Install P6. I'm learning about Poser myself and I took the plunge and upgraded from P4. I've never learnt about the other rooms (face room, Material room etc) so I'm having to learn how to go on with them myself. Francemi, You have a choice of installs when you start the set up, and you can choose to do a full install. It installs into it's own folder programfiles/curiouslabs/poser6 so it doesn't install over Poser5 (it didn't install over P4 anyway).

Francemi ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 4:30 PM

Thanks! That means it is a full version then. So I will be able to install it by itself and try it before deciding if I get rid of P5 or not. ;o)
