Subject: Can't open clothing .obj files

Theresa ( ) posted Fri, 19 January 2001 at 10:47 AM ยท edited Sat, 27 July 2024 at 8:36 AM

I've been having an occasional problem opening clothing .obj files. I'll click on the image in the library, get a message that it can't open geometries/folder/file.obj and then Out of Memory. Whatever figure is already on the screen disappears. Any suggestions?

Its most likely that the RSR file associated to the OBJ file has become corrupted. Close Poser, find the RSR file within the Geometries folder (NOT the Library folder) and delete it. Poser will build a new one next time you load the figure. If this does not fix it then you need to reinstall Poser. philc_agatha_white_on_black.jpg

...but before re-installing Poser, make sure the object is in the correct Runtime/Geometry folder.

How does a geometry's RSR file just go and become corrupted all on it's own? It happened to me once, and really kind of had me baffled.

If your system gets a surge or actually crashes while you are in the program it can happen. Marque

Deleting the .rsr eliminated the problem. Thanks! If in the future I need to reinstall Poser do I also need to reinstall the patch?

I would if I were you. save any and all custom folders somewhere else first and then put them back after re-installing. That's just to be safe though-- I used to think nothing of backing up files, but after several bad situations, I've become quite religious about backing up, and very leery of reinstalling something over an existing installation.

How does a geometry's RSR file just go and become corrupted all on it's own? The mystery of Microsoft...

This kind of Q $ A helps so much, I am still a newbie to the poser world. But reading and saving information such as this helps me alot. Taking it one step at a time, and those are itty bitty steps Thanks Phil for the advice of deleting the rsr's, did the trick...hmmm...now to find the other one that gave me that dreaded box.
