Subject: Hey Mods! seperate Poser 6 forums?

RealDeal ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 1:26 PM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 9:55 PM

I asked the same thing when P5 came out, I know it's pointless, but.. Could we please have seperate forums and freestuff for Poser 6 specific stuff? it's going to be probably a year and several service packs before I even consider "upgrading".

thixen ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 1:29 PM

i second this, all the posts about how great Poser 6 is, is well depressing me. :`( Personally I'd be much happier if it sucked as bas as people said P5 did when it came out.

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 1:46 PM

There is a lot of overlap between different versions of Poser and there will be future versions of the program. There's no reason to start a new forum at this point when a lot of features remain the same...

thefixer ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 1:57 PM

I wasn't around when P5 came out over P4 but I imagine it was much the same then also. The P6 stuff will all blow over at some point and for those of us that are waiting for our "boxed" version some of the stuff being talked about could prove useful!!

There was a lot of discussion about separate forums when P5 came out and fortunately it was trumped. There's a lot of cross compatibility between different versions that would overwise be ignored. Thefixer, I'm waiting on my boxed set too so once it arrives I'll be busy rendering and spend less time posting ;)

For a while there was a separate forum for P5, meant to deal with bugs. It was (at least in theory) watched by CL. Luckily, it doesn't appear that we'll need such a forum this time. Crossing fingers and toes.....

My vote - NO separate forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Simplest solution; add check boxes to the Post a New Message screen and reply boxes similar to the Nudity/Violence/Both dots. Make it required that all posts have at least one of them checked (NO default) before the post is accepted. [ ]Poser 3 Related [ ]Poser 4/Artist/PPP Related [ ]Poser 5 Related [ ]Poser 6 Related [ ]Multiple versions [ ]Version Not Relevant [ ]Don't Know Couple optionals; [ ] Assistance requested [ ] Cool Tip/Tutorial/Discovery [ ] Product related [ ] Bitch/Gripe/Wants attention NOW! [ ] Personal announcement or OT information for assistance requests; [ ]Win pre XP [ ]WinXP [ ]Mac Any other suggestions?????? I realize a lot of members would consider these an insufferable infringement on their right to post endless uninformative "Newbie needs HEEEEEELP!?!??!?!" or "Where do I . . . ?" thread Subject lines, but I know this would save a lot of time for members on dial-up or with limited time to browse the forum. It would be simple enough for forum mods or thread reply posters to "flip" the toggles for those who don't know or care to do it for themselves, similar to how I see "Oooops, for got the Nudity Flag ?!?!" in the Forums with fair regularity. Also I personally think the Product Forums should be merged back into the main Poser Forum, with only the Requirement that a [ ]Commercial Product Related flag be set, but that's just my own preference, I find new product announcements, inquiries, and promos at least as interesting and deserving of my attention as the latest "Which version of Poser is best for modeling clothes?" or "Site XYZ hasn't replied to my complaint in 12 SECONDS! - Their support S*CKS!!!!" - type posts. . . . Just my extremely opinionated 2 cents worth, opposing views expected and encouraged. . . G

This was brought up already and the consensus was no, cause then there would be a precedent for others such as photoshop 5, 6, 7 CE or what ever, max 4, 5, 6 etc...

RealDeal and All.. I can see a point to have a P6 forum but then again not. Like brought up above if we did we would have a Forum for every Photoshop..for example.. that would be alot of forums. Do note though, that I will bring this up to the mods and admin.. never hurts asking. :) But keep on posting..!! and about poser 6! :) Ryuslilangel Poser Coordinator

I think I'd prefer nNOT having a P6 only forum for one main reason.. Rendo runs dog slow on some days, and the thought of waiting just to switch forums is not appealing. Here's a thought.. if you don't have P6, and you don't want to see the beautiful new renders and tips, then when you see P6 in the topic, DON'T CLICK ON IT! Plus, even though I don't have my box yet, I'm loving seeing all the new stuff these guys are doing.. and who knows? Maybe you guys will see a worthwhile reason to upgrade the software you've had for 5 or 6 years now... I'm seeing more progress and life in the poser community that I've ever seen!

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

I can sympathize with Thixen since I still using P4. After the initial firestorm over Poser 5, things settled down and I really don't seem to see that many P5 only threads now. That may be diffetrent with P6. Of course, the P6 posts so far are pretty boring if you don't own it. The P5 flames and calls for CL's head were entertaining .

It's sometimes needlessly confusing if people don't post their Poser version when asking questions. That's because it really does make a difference. I'd prefer a Poser 6 forum. Other web sites have already done this.

I like leather-guy's idea about marking posts. And if users can set a preference, like with nudity and violence, the P4 users won't have to be bothered by P5/P6 specifics. I don't mind "newbie needs help" posts, asking for help and giving advice is one of the main functions of a forum IMO. I don't think separating the Poser forum into P5/P6 and P4/older sections would be a very good idea. Lots of posts concern all Poser versions, where should those posts go then? I'd definitely love to see that marking functionality. Just my two cents. Steven.

It would be nice to have a clue in the subject line. "Need help with rendering in Poser 5," for example. I routinely ignore any subject lines that are vague, or ones that include the nudity and violence tags. Those violence tags are usually a cheap trick to catch attention.

lmckenzie ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 10:24 PM

To some extent, a lot of the Poser 5 posts are self identifying by having "cloth room," "shaders," etc. in the subject. People that have been around for a while know to be fairly specific when asking a question. Beginners generally aren't going to be asking about the more advanced features of v. 5. A checkbox would be OK but I'm wondering if people wouldn't tend to check whichever version they are using rather than based on features. Someone who went from 4 to 6 might not even know if something was included in 5. There will always be posts that don't interest you, even if you have that version.

I change my vote to leather-guy's idea about marking posts; that would make life sooooo much simpler when trying to figure out if the poster is saying what you think they are saying or not. or something like that. * this post was not version specific
