Subject: ...I'm sorry I pre-ordered P6

guslaw ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 8:58 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 9:56 PM

that is, I'm sorry that I pre-ordered THE BOXED/SHIPABLE version instead of the D/L version. I'm still patiently (NOT) waiting... Based on comments and ad-hoc reviews, It seems to me that the initial reaction to P6 is just about 180 degrees opposite to what the initial reaction to P5 was. CL apparently has done a good job and I want to play NOW! (Long weekend and all...)

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 9:03 AM

Cheer up. By the time we get our copies, CL may already have released the content patch or first service release. Which means we'll have even less trouble than the downloaders. Welcome to Wait Club, by the way.

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 9:03 AM

Well I wish DL and BOX was offered. I like book and a pretty BOX. :)

I'm with you all! I just installed additional 1 gig memory, I am waiting for the Fed Ex man with my new Radeon GPU. All I Need now is my P6 I WANT MY P6!

pzrite ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 9:59 AM

When I check my order status at the Digital River/Curious Labs site, it says "Shipment Pending". I'm wondering if that's what everyone else's says too? I'm with you guslaw, I should have gotten the download version! WAH!

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 10:08 AM

I got that same "Shipment Pending" and still no tracking number

guslaw ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 10:12 AM · edited Fri, 25 March 2005 at 10:15 AM

My understanding is that CL won't start shipping until sometime next week when they get the physical software in their warehouse. So until it is actually shipped, there won't be any tracking numbers...nothing to track yet.

Mine says "Shipment Pending" too....it just means Digital River has not shipped it your direction yet. according to the emails i have, today is the first day Digital River could have recieved the shipment from CL. Now with today being good friday and sunday being easter, it may not get there till monday or tuesday. Once DR has them they have to ship them out to us.

I have to agree with you on this one - I am on pins and needles waiting for it and all the fantastic reviews are making it worse :-)

I'm sure many of us will get it by the end of next week..(Finger cross)...I'm going from PP to P6 so it's going to feel like a whole new progam to me...I hope the manuel is easy to follow...Looking out for the UPS guy..LOL

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 12:26 PM

I emailed to CL -------------------------- Hi CL, I am getting tired of same information since March 21 when checking for my preorder on line. It says "Shipment Pending" and there is no tracking number. I would like to have tracking number or any new information to track my order. Thanks

Natolii ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 12:36 PM

Again, March 21 was the day that the softwar shipped form curious Labs (CL) to their Distributor (Digital River). You will have to contact Digital River for further information.

guslaw ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 12:36 PM

GWeb - again, tracking numbers DO NOT EXIST until P6 is actually shipped. Either CL or DR just got, or are soon getting, the physical software to ship. They cannot give you (us) a tracking number until it actually ships, no matter how eager we all are to get P6.

Tyger_purr ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 12:40 PM

and they will tell you that march 21st is the day they shiped all the orders to Digital River and in 5-7 days from the 21st Digital River's distribution centers will get the shipment and begin mailing it out. At that point you will probably get your tracking number. so anyday now we should bet our tracking numbers.

I did see an option where you could buy the download version, and then get a boxed version for a discount. I didn't click the link to investigate because I wanted to download it.

I totally agree! I ordered mine on February 17th and I'm waiting anxiously. Wish I'd have chosen the download option but oh well! Hope it arrives soon though! :)

Robotmonster ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 1:22 PM

Well, I don't mind waiting. I really do prefer a CD in a box with a decent printed manual (so I can have some reading done even in the smallest of rooms, the toilet.)

pzrite ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 1:43 PM

I'm almost impatient enough to order the download version while I'm waiting for the box. How pathetic is that?!?! Luckily I don't have the money to do that, so I guess I'll have to wait another week while reading how everyone else is having fun with it.

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 1:48 PM

Yeah no one is willing to do subsurface scatter test for me. Catherine (Mec4D) said she would but never did. :(

Schlabber ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 2:09 PM

Well - in the meantime I have to say I'm sorry I preordered P6. I decide to put it back in the edge until the focus-problem is solved (or not solved - but then I think I'll give Poser 6 back).

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 2:37 PM

LD, what is the "W..t C..b"? Oath. oath. oath! ;) And to qualify quslaw's post: Tracking number DO NOT EXIST until P6 is actually shipped to customers from the Distributor (DigitalRiver) who is awaiting shipment from Curious Labs. I like being in the club, er, um, with the rest of you. :)

On the bright side, I decided to upgrade my MacOS version of Poser 5 to Poser 6. Just finished downloading the monster. But I'm still waiting for the boxed Windows version of Poser 6. Where does that put me in the club? ;)

R_Hatch: Shhhhhhhh.... ;0)

After my evening of "The Michael Jackson Trial" (better than CSI and soap opera's rolled into one) and Sci-Fi Friday, I'm going to install. Will let you know how the MacOS version plays. ETA: For those on dial-ups, fur-get it. I'm on a T1 getting 90KB/s (no cable or DSL where I live) and it took ~4 hours to download both Poser 6 and Shade LE.

To borrow from Benjamin Franklin: "A Watched Pot never boils." Seriously, if you stop trying to track it, the waiting time will probably be less painful. Ok, yes, when I've ordered new computer gizmos, I'd check the tracking info at least twice a day!

pzrite ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 10:18 AM

Thanks alot jjsemp! I wasn't gonna do it, but then I saw you did it and I did it too! I went and purchased the download version even though I have a boxed version on the way. WHY WHY WHY did you make me do that?!?! Well hopefully, CL will understand my impatience and refund my money for one of the orders. If not, like you say, who needs to eat! :(

artistheat ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 10:57 AM

Has everyone gone MAD!!Don't send CL all your money send some to me...LOL...Since I received my Delivery date for next week I'll just sit back and relax...Hmmm maybe CL are like the BORG (Resistance is futile):)

Yes!!! We're all Mad Hatters. :)

Well, in my case, it isn't duplication. The boxed version is an "Early Adopter" upgrade for Windows Poser 5. The download is an upgrade for MacOS Poser 5.

No problems with Poser 6 on the MacOS side (OS 10.3.8 on a 1GHz eMac, 768MB). Just played quickly with it, but no crashes even when Changing Rooms (a little English humor there, eh)...

Sorrily (or gladly!), a possible C4D plugin development project may be occupying my every waking moment for the next month. Will I ever get to play with my toys! ;)

If you buy the download version, you have the option to buy the boxed version at a reduced price. I didn't click the link to investigate since I don't feel the need for both. But if you're interested, I believe the link is on your order screen.

Who cares about a box? Sure, any printed manual material would have been nice, but I got news for you. The downloadable version came with a Reference Manual, and a Tutorial Manual. Each one is over 350 pages! I printed them on a nice color printer at work and took them to Kinko's for them to bind for me. These babies are MASSIVE and there is no way in hell you could have fit them both in a box I think. Really, I think the only thing I am missing is the quick reference card. It came included as a PDF, but a nice laminated fold out card would be nice. Not nice enough to wait 3 weeks for, though. =)

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 4:14 PM

Although I agree with you, Danava, there is the selling point (if ever needed) of the box. Many people, on eBay for instance, would think thrice before purchasing a written CD claiming to contain a valid piece of software. Show them a box and a manufactured CD, no problems. This is, of course, irrational, but sometimes also prudent. There is also the point that, for the SE version, this is a 1.1GB download between Poser6 and ShadeLE. Unless you have better than a 56K modem, that is many hours or days even to download - with uncertaintly of completion. If it weren't for the fact that I have a home business and thus a T1 for serving, my best phone connection would be a noisy 14KB/s - we're talking more than a day, probably three or four to get it completely.

If I'm paying good money for a program...I want Box,Cd's,Manual and any extras you can throw in...lol..But that is true what Kuroyume0161 said about resale...It's easier to resale a box program then a DL program....So look out for P6 on ebay from me when P7 comes out...LOL..

constantine_1234 ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 4:49 PM · edited Sat, 26 March 2005 at 4:52 PM

When considering manuals, the determining factor for me is not the number of pages. Heck, they can chew up 100 pages on indexes, EULA, whatever. Then there is the obligatory "3D art" stuff, then some stuff that probably hasn't been changed since Poser 3. I've skimmed through both the tutorial and the Reference Manual. I've printed maybe 20 pages, and they had the most promise of useful info. The rest isn't worth printing, IMHO. My Poser 5 printed manual was about the same. I used to save all the boxes my software came in. However, this became more and more impractical since I got married. It was at the point where we'd need a large closet for all the boxes. So they got thrown out.

This is worth the wait lol! :) A thing on boxes, yeah, I love them too, but actually it's only a cd and some manual, and needs lots of space. Looking at the pile of games, ms, adobe, poser boxes, not sure what to squeeze into them.
