Subject: Strange request for temp files

raf1 ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 5:18 PM ยท edited Sat, 28 December 2024 at 2:58 AM

Greetings, Created and rendered a simple scene and Vue5I asked me for the location of three different ".VIM" files that it looked for in the Vue 5 InfiniteTemp directory and could not locate. It asked if I wanted to search for them and I kicked over to Windows Explorer to search and they are not on my computer anywhere. The files Vue5I asked for are: vueSnfGpT-org-City.vim vueSialMA-org-City.vim vueDyg3mE-org-City.vim My render appears to be fine. I am running the original disk install w/o updates (I did try the updates with the same result) and was wondering if anyone has any ideas why these files seem to be needed and are MIA. Thanks. raf

If you are using Rendercow to render, you'll get this error. That is what happened to me. Re-install the original rendercow on each computer. If you aren't using the rendercows, I am not sure what is going on. sorry:(

Hi Belgareth - thanks for the quick response. I am using RenderCow and I believe that one of my other machines still had an updated RC on it so therefore I was not using a "virgin" installation. Question: If I do use one of the betas, are these files really necessary for my render? Thanks again. raf

Yes. What was happening to me was that I was getting black, un-textured squares from the computers that were looking for the texture maps in the temp folder.
It never happened with the computed with Vue Infinite installed on it (or should I say, the computer with the scene that was sending the job to the others), only the other computers using Rendercow on the network.

what does this all mean?

Belgareth ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 8:07 PM

"what does this all mean?" There seems to be a problem with the network rendering using the rendercows after installing the Vue Infinite beta update, Pollee. When you install the update and launch the Rendercows for a render, they get updated. This update to the Rendercows seems to have a bug (on our systems at least) where Vue dosen't store the textures in the temp folder so the other computers on the network can get them. This causes un-textured blocks "Tiles" to appear in the final rendered image on the "Tiles" where the computers that could not get/find the textures they needed, rendered.

oh, thank so much. I understand. I too have experienced something like this with the update.

Belgareth ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 8:14 PM

All you have to do, Pollee, is take out the instalation disk and Re-Install the Rendercow Program that came with Vue Infinite on every computer using Rendercow. That should fix up your problem...Well it did with me at least:)

Thanks for the tip. I tried it & it didn't work. Probably because the cows were updated again right after I hit the render button. Maybe another update is needed to fix this. Errors keep coming up about missing maps that the main computer has no troubles finding. I missed the collection map dload so maybe that will help.

Let me know if it does, as that may be all I need:) I'm not sure I downloaded it the first time, or that it even existed the first time round...lol

Hi, Happy Easter. I am getting the greatest network renders but a few (the top row of edited plants that come with v5i) will not render over the network. They are strangely named alpha maps that the other cows won't find? I wonder what's the best way to fix this.

Belgareth ( ) posted Sun, 27 March 2005 at 1:45 PM

Yep. That is the problem OK... It seemed to happen to the trees with me a lot. Un-install the update, mention your problem to e-on, and re-install the CD version of Rendercow on all the computers. Remember to un-install the update 1st, or the Rendercows will be updated again:) Sorry I can't help you any more than that:( Happy easter to you too:)

Well, reverted to original install and the missing file problem is a thing of the past. Still wonder what the errors actually cost me as I could not see any shortfall in my final renders. Thanks again for your thoughts. raf

Glad it was of some help. As it is a beta update, I am not too worried about it. If the problem is still there on the normal update (when it comes out) I/we will have to try and get e0on to fix it. Take care and happy easter to all:) Gareth...

It seems that even if you re-install a cow, VUE will try and update it with the faulty beta update. The only way to avoid this for now it appears is to revert back to the original (non updated) version.

Has anyone tried the new V5I beta? Just wondering if it might have addressed the issue. Thanks. raf

Same problem. I had to revert back to the original again.
