I put her in my shopping cart and proceeded to checkout...

There, as usual, I read about the voucher I have (how much is left of it) and this is what it says:

You have a gift certificate balance of $0.00 and a voucher total of $2.39 ($0.00 of which can be used on platinum club items) which will be applied before other payments.

Now I look at the bill and this is it:

Subtotal: $0.85
Shipping (via ELECTRONIC): $0.00
Tax: $0.00
Total: $0.85
To be paid now: $0.85
Non-Platinum Vouchers -$0.42
Balance $0.43

Does someone know why DAZ didn't use $0.85 out of my voucher for this item? The other items I bought during the march madness were paid in total with my voucher.

If I can't find the way to apply the total out of my voucher tonight, I just won't buy it but I don't think it is right.

That's the way it works with brokered items.

They use only a percentage of our voucher?

They only apply to the daz portion of the payment. The broker still receives their full payment. So normally half is used (the Daz half). - Noel

Dizzi and Spiritual, thank you very much for the answers. I didn't know that (can't read AND remember all the stuff at DAZ...) France

Well, it was nice for Daz to do that anyway... not to mention it's almost $20 retail. Hate to cough up $.43, which is nothing -- oh well! I need a character pack anyway. Just what else will Daz pull up from their sleeves remains to be seeing. ;-) jlovesart aka JBWStar

On the $0.43 problem; I had the same issue as Francemi. Yes, a character set at that price is fine by me. But DAZ's original publicity states...

"but instead of offering the DAZ|Original New Releases at our usual 30% off for a couple of weeks, we're going to release several new products at ridiculously low prices!"

I don't think it's a big deal, but they have departed from their DAZ|Original only policy.

Xena ( ) posted Mon, 28 March 2005 at 2:25 AM

Daz originals aren't only inhouse stuff, but items purchased outright from brokers as well. They do this so they can offer them up with all the good stuff you get with inhouse originals, like full voucher usage. On brokered items, only a percentage of your voucher will work. So I don't see why this massive sale would be any different in regards to naming outright broker purchased items as Daz originals.

Acadia ( ) posted Mon, 28 March 2005 at 2:31 AM

I agree. Face it, everything for sale for poser here, at DAZ, PP, DNA or anywhere else is made by someone. So what if it has a name attached to it.

The difference is that the merchant, the maker, the tester, and the brokering house aren't flogging the product. AFAIK, jjsemp wasn't involved with the production in any way and is simply a happy customer. Reports and questions are allowed here if they aren't self-serving ads. I think her face looks like an emaciated Arnold Schwartzeneger (Spelling?) Too big eyes, standard alien-like shaped face with pointy chin, too thin a nose with too wide nostrils. I just don't think she's very pretty. She's got a very nice body, but her face just doesn't match it. I don't consider her a great beauty.

For $0.43 the texture alone was worth it. It nice to have a light skin on some models, instead of everyone looking like they spent a week in a tanning bed. Plus with my $5.00 voucher I bought a $4.98 couch for her to sit on.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Mon, 28 March 2005 at 10:57 AM

Didn't see the movie(s). Have zero (0) desire to see the movie(s). This model looks better than the original. It's an interesting phenomenon: things tend to look better from a distance than they do up close. Another interesting phenomenon: things tend to look better at night than they do during the day.

marvo ( ) posted Mon, 28 March 2005 at 4:18 PM

$0.85 - Almost any character is worth that. Same with most of the other DAZ sale items. I may not have a use for them right this minute, but sometime in the future I might. I would hate to need say 'the biplane' in a few months and have to pay full price knowing I could have got it for less than a dollar. And you just know that sooner or later that's going to happen!

aeilkema ( ) posted Mon, 28 March 2005 at 4:29 PM

marvo, DAZ is so very happy with people like you :-) A lot of people seem to have the same kind of reasoning as you do, it's so cheap let's get it, perhaps I need it or use it one day..... I guess, most of the people buying at the madness sale would normally not have bought the stuff they bought now and I've got the feeling (I'm pretty sure) Daz has generate some nice income during the sale which they otherwise would have never got. By my estimate exceeds far over $10,000 by now. With todays/tomorrows madness sale offer, they're going to generate a lot more. DAZ is very good in inventing these kind of sale and I don't blame them at all. They know a lot of Poser people are very gullible and they thrive on it. As for ending up using it, I doubt it seriously. They did a survey last your at the DAZ forums asking what people spent at DAZ items and how much they ended up using.... Most of the people don't ever use half the stuff they buy. Some even admitted buying over $1000 worth of items during a year, only to end up using a couple of them.

Well thank you for blanket naming us all gullible! I'm guessing you weren't voted in as the new author of 'How To Win Friends and Influence People' LOL At $0.85 per sale, that's a LOT of sales to reach just 10 grand 8O 11,764 to be exact. And you have to factor in the fact that brokers pay even less than that because we get a broker discount as well. You'll also have to factor in the costs of each item. They could potentially paid any broker up to and over $1000 per item, plus the in-house stuff is made by employees on wages. I seriously think Daz isn't making THAT much money. But they are a business and it IS their goal to make money. I wonder why that bothers people? And just for the record, this blanketted person hasn't bought every item, only the ones I'll use .. and I've used 4 of them so far :P

Acadia ( ) posted Mon, 28 March 2005 at 5:47 PM · edited Mon, 28 March 2005 at 5:48 PM

I haven't bought any of them. I have a monthly budget that I allocate towards this hobby, and make sure I stick to it; no matter how cheap some items are, it adds up. I make sure I stick to my Poser budget by not using credit cards to purchase things. Instead I deal in PayPal and once it's gone it's gone for that month. It's too tempting to just browse and spend and spend. My wish list just on this site alone is almost at 2K for all the things I want to buy. Obviously I can't buy it all at once, so I do it little by little each month. Spur of the moment spending will cut into my real "want" list. I'm looking forward to April :) That way I can buy some new toys to play with :)

I too have a budget for this hobby. But compared with how much I spend on gas, food, telephone, cable TV and other 'essentials', (including my wife) it's insignificant. $0.85 is less than you would pay for anything at a fast food place and loads less than a cup of anything from $tarbucks! But this is a good point. I have a feeling there are some people who suffer from 'Poser Addiction' and just have to buy. They probably also download every bit of freestuff they can.
