I can build it quickly in Amapi, but the
figure isn't fully clear.
Does it need a separate hub? Are the
spokes square in section or cylindrical? Is the wheel itself square (like old wagon wheel) or rounded (like bicycle?)

Nope~ not getting paid (I wish) A few weeks ago, I posted about making (remaking) a parade float, asked for help in getting simple props modeled. I was told it was too big 'o job for a non modeler, and it couldnt be done... well I did it! :) The presentaion, using the Poser renders, went off without a hitch, and we got the funding for all materials. No profit is being made by anyone on this at all. The float is for a local beauty pageant court, held annually. That is what the 4 stantions are for, where the 4 winners stand and wave (elbow, elbow, wrist, wrist...repeat) ;) .. Ill post more pics below this one The wheel is for the sternwheel base, will be cut from a waterjet (free) out of 3/4" plywood then weather sealed... The waterjet machine will take any DXF file.. Not only did I design it in POSER using primitives, but we are now making it for *real*.. I will post pics when I can. Here's 1 pic....

Nope nothing cylindical or fancy.. all will be flat... basically, the pic in the link here, all black will be wood, the white will be the cutout parts... http://personalpages.tds.net/~dragonslair/images/wheel.gif another pic of the plans

That's neat! Cut out of plywood.... Now I understand the shape needed. Hold on a minute......

so you are not looking for a 3d model you are just wanting it to be a dxf line drawing?

No, I need the DXF (line drawing) file to specs to cut out the actual pluwood sternwheel ends...
we found a guy who donated his time on a waterjet to cut out the wheel ends for us.. That is why the deadline (he is going to try to do it tuesday for us).. he asked that all we provide is the DXF file to scale.
the machine does the rest... kind of cool, actually..
(the waterjet cutteing machine)

Here's a try. I have no idea whether the cutting machine will like this, but it looks like a pattern that would work in plywood, and the dimensions are right in Amapi. The DXF is the attached text. Rename it to something.DXF before using.

Come to think of it, the hole in the center doesn't really need to be part of the pattern. It could be drilled in the usual way. Let's see if the pattern is better without the hole.....

Mucho appreciated! you have NO IDEA how much! Yes, the hub hole we can pull off ourselves... thanks! raz~

Well, see how that works. I'll be watching for message or email if it doesn't work!

here is a dxf from corel I saved it as an AutoCad2000 file. It is just the lines, but I couldn't figure out how to join the spokes to the cylinders. If this is workable by all means. I also noticed that ockham did a 3d version, so not sure if this is even needed.

Well, I can see that's wrong. (Wheel not fat enough.)

Try this instead. (I deleted the bad one.)

When you're done, show us lots of pictures! Incidentally, I'll bet Curious Labs would like to see this as a "User Story" or whatever they call it. Poser has certainly never been used to design a parade float.
