**COMING SOON!** This custom collection of monitor displays and video screens adds another level of detailing to your sci-fi renders. Each of these 24 texture images (800 x 600) is extremely detailed and highly specialized. Ranging from medical displays to military tactical displays to orbital trajectories to alien scans, these video screens will help the stories in your renders unfold with ease. Cheers! M

Now that looks REALLY useful, Moe. I didn't know you had that in the works. Images to put on screens can save a lot of time setting up a render. Do you have any plans for animated ones? Say some repeating loops that an animator can put on a screen in the background without it being too obvious that it's just a short loop repeating?

Thanks for the encouragement... :o) Ajax, no... I hadn't even thought about doing a looped sequence of images... (mega-doh!). Thanks for the suggestion, matey! I'll repackage this and add some looped textures (how does a sequence of six-images sound to you?). Are you ready to test these out for me, Ajax? Looks like this will be "coming not-so soon". Back to the drawing board. LOL! ClintH... you might want to move this thread over to the Developers Forum. :o) Cheers! M

Sure, I'll test 'em :-) For Poser, AVI format is the way to go for animated textures. Not sure about other apps. Image sequences would be cool (say an AVI set to 2 frames per second), but I was thinking more in terms of short movies. You could have a planet on screen do a full revolution or have the clouds in those landscapes move across - that kind of thing.

Hmmmm... looped AVI's... hmmmm... That's a lot more complicated than I had originally envisioned, but it is really challenging! I would probably drop down the size of the renders to 400 x 300 (is that adequate?)... hmmmm... Those landscapes in the tactical display are three separate renders from Terragen, with the grayscale used to generate that terrain imported as an overhead view. The three bottom arrows on the overhead indicate the correct position of those camera views. Trust me... it's a really smart display. :o) Now animating that... LOL... now that would be fun. The planet... I'd probably have to set-up the entire thing in LightWave first... then overlay the graphic elements separately in post-prod... very challenging stuff. :o) Any idea how big the limits are for an AVI file of this nature? Absolutely any input that will make this user friendly would be most welcome as this is completely new ground for me. Thanks again! Cheers! M

I've been doing a little bit of animation lately, so I have some idea of what's involved. The size all depends on how lossy you want it. If you come up with one test sequence (say 2 to 6 images?) and send it to me, I'll run it through my movie software and see what sort of file size we get for reasonable image quality. I'm pretty sure I can overlay a transparent image on an AVI or over an image sequence with some of the software I have. I also have mimic so I could easily put a movie of somebody talking into a corner of a pic or something like that. I could also set these up as Poser 5/6 shaders if you want. It would be a pretty quick job for me to do that sort of thing - wouldn't take out too much time from the work on Hyperion.

Good idea, how about bunging in a cool wall mounted display prop as a bonus :-)

Please go with your orginal 800 x 600 displays. Make the animated package a seperate offering.

Dave-So ( ) posted Tue, 29 March 2005 at 6:35 PM

this is a mighty needed package... yes...agreed..release the stills...add later the animated... you need some DNA strands and stuff.... infrared views of planets night vision stuff :)

Ok folks... thank you (again) very much for your feedback. We will be releasing the initial Dystopian Displays texture pack as a series of static images only, along with a simple monitor mesh to use with these display images. Actually, I will design the monitor mesh so that it can be wall, floor or table mounted, with a few scaling sizes. :o) Once we figure out the optimum file sizes and resolutions, we will release a separate package of animated displays. Thank you also for the display type suggestions... I have been revisiting some sci-fi classics and studying the display screens for inspiration. :o) Cheers! M
