you're not out of memory, I have less memory than you do and I run poser pp just fine. poser sometimes gives that as an error message. it doesn't mean you have no memory left. Just means that something got screwed up in the geom files or something. if that's not the case then you may need to upgrade your computer. I have a pent 3. :)

A computer uses two areas for memory use. One is a reserved 512K memory block (that never changes whether you have 8Megs or 2Gigs of RAM) and that's the one that probably gives you the error message. Something clogged it up and stayed. Try a warm reboot (that is click on the restart button in your turn off the computer menu). What that does is clear out any junk in that portion of your RAM. For your information: This is the general error message of Poser 4 that it doesn't understand something and has failed to complete the requested operation. This generally happens when you load something and eighter the .obj file is missing or the .rsr file in the object directory is corrupt. This has nothing to do with memory (just an incorrect error message).

I ahve always been confused by the .rsr file deal... what do those do? I have seen tutorials that show the line types of a .cr2 but can anyone point me to a text that explains the function of each line type?

There are two different types of .rsr files. The ones in the object directories (in the same directory as the .obj file with the same name) are compiled versions of the object files (these do not exist in Poser 5 anymore) and can be removed (they will be reconstructed as and when required). The ones in the other Poser directories (so in the same directory as the .cr2, .hr4, etc) must NOT be deleted (they contain the picture shown in Poser for this file), in Poser 5 these .rsr have been replaced. When in doubt you can always remove the .rsr files from the object directories but never touch the ones in the other directories (unless a particular picture is itself corrupt).

When I have this problem with Poser Artist, I switch over to DAZ Studio. For some reason the offending object will work in there when it won't work in Poser. It makes for some very interesting switching back and forth. LOL Miriah

What does it mean a compiled version of the figure? What does Poser do here, I guess I won't care when I get P6 but I'm curious.

As you know the .obj file is in a human readable format. While loading such a file Poser converts all numbers (and object file consist mainly of numbers) to an internal floating point value (which can be used by the processor). This conversion does take some time, so previously the internal format (with machine readable floating point numbers) was saved in an .rsr file, this could save a bit of time when it was needed again. In real life the time saved was so small it wasn't worth the problems caused by corrupt .rsr files, so in Poser 5 this was dropped.

Out of memory errors: 1.) Did you get it after you got an error message saying Poser couldn't find a geometry file? If so, then you need to find that geometry file. 2.) If the geometry file is indeed there, and you're running Poser 4 (aka Poser artist), then the geometry rsr file is corrupted. Delete it.

This has nothing to do with memory (just an incorrect error message). must be an echo in here, I basically said the samething. ;)
