Subject: Bryce to Carrara

Is any way available to bring Bryce .obp. or .br5 files as, say, .obj files into Carrara. Or even to save as Poser files to allow import to Carrara?

If you still have Bryce you can export in one of the formats Carrara can import. I have used 3ds and obj in the past, if I remember correctly.

Bryce doesn't allow you to export certain objects like rocks or plants though. This has driven me nuts in the past. :( The only thing you can export predictably and satisfactorily are terrains and the textures on terrains. BTW, I read an article highlighting work flows at George Lucas's Industrial Light and Magic shop. At the time the article was written, they indicated that Bryce was used regularly for the sole purpose of creating texture maps for use in their other 3-d apps! Bryce makes me wince regularly but it does have outstanding texture creation tools.

I agree. I had a copy of Bryce 3D and after I figured out that you had to have a paint program and a 3D modeling program available to do anything much more than landscapes, I moved on. I had no idea it was used by ILM for such purposes. That's actually very interesting. -Kix

That's true to an extent. It's just that everything gets exported as a terrain, even objects that aren't orginally - usually with loss of fidelity. Mark

I have Bryce5 but I can not get items to group with Terrains to allow this export as .obj--only the terrain part exports. Or am I missing out on what you are suggesting? Appreciate all the help but would love to see a "spelt out" test sample or tute. Brian
