Subject: Best upgrade route...

I guess I'll take the plunge on P6, but I'm in the process of buying a new dedicated graphics system... I have licensed copies of P4PP and P5 - does it make a difference which upgrade package I buy - I am assuming it is just a clean installation and it just looks to be sure you purchased the old version? I'm not inclined to "infect" a new machine with P5 :) :)... If I install P4PP is it still available as well as P6? (CuriousLabs's site does not really make any of this clear, unless I missed it) Thanks very much!

It is a clean install. I had P5 on my machine at the time so I dont know if it checks or not but I know it is a full install. Hope that helps.

It didn't even check my P5 serial or if it was installed. As long as you provide CL with a valid serial to upgrade from, they simply send you the P6 package (this may be the reason that the upgrade is only offered through their web store). Mine does say P6 Upgrade on the barcode, but I suspect that's simply for their own storage purposes. I suspect whatever's inside the package is exactly the same wether you purchase upgrade or full since it just didn't care to check for P5 in any way during installation.

Look at the prices. I think you get a better price if you move up from Poser 5 than if you move up from Poser 4. Other than that, there is only one version of Poser 6. There is no upgrade version versus full version. There is no sniffer looking for a previous version. When you order, you supply your qualifying serial number. That's it.

I don't know what this "infection" is about, but Poser 5 ran virtually flawlessly for me for more than a year now. I used it alot. Poser 6 installs in it's own directory, unless you tell it otherwise. Even if you install it over another Poser version I think the content it writes is different anyways, so bare minimum if anything gets overwritten.

Thanks much everyone... I should not be so harsh on P5 - I gave up on it early on and have concentrated on PP - but it is time to move on!
