Subject: Disable voting on your own images?

diomedes66 ( ) posted Tue, 29 March 2005 at 8:53 PM ยท edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 5:07 AM

This post is of course for anyone interested but primarily for those who who have control over such things. Is it possible to request a 'disable checkbox' to prevent voting on your own image for the 'Hot 20?'

Birddie ( ) posted Tue, 29 March 2005 at 11:25 PM

I don't think theere is. I haven't even seen any settings to get rid of the vote thing.

logiloglu ( ) posted Wed, 30 March 2005 at 6:54 PM

it would be a great future to disable the vote button ( as an option ).i think its possible an artist dont want votes on some postings. !!!!!!!!!!! #:O) !!!!!!!!!!

diomedes66 ( ) posted Wed, 30 March 2005 at 6:58 PM

It seems to me that we can disable ratings, we can disable comments, but we can't disable voting. It would be excellent to be able to have full control over our images. If we wish to allow voting on our images, we can, if we wish not to, we can. How do we make it so?

soloshado ( ) posted Wed, 30 March 2005 at 7:27 PM

I'm with all of the above...we need an option to disable the voting button.

soloshado ( ) posted Wed, 30 March 2005 at 7:29 PM

Or...do away with voting all together. We are not here to compete with each other on a daily basis. We can always have contests for that.

Birddie ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 12:13 AM

for me personally all I would want would be the comments, not even the stupid rant or voting, my artwork is not worth voting on lol, let alone rank on. :)

SophiaDeer ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 12:41 AM

I agree...I think a person should have the option of whether they want their work to be voted on or not.

i would like to be able to disable voting on ALL of my images...not that anyone ever uses it that much anyway!! LOL!

Birddie ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 3:50 AM

Mine would be voted down more than up, lmao.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 4:20 AM

I've asked for the ability to have voting disabled. It should only take another line in the field (like to allow rankings or comments). That way those of us who opt out of the popularity contest can avoid it altogether. Maybe in some other lifetime.... Carolly

Birddie ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 4:53 AM

Then we wouldn't have to see all thosely lovely, annoying little v's in the comments of people's galleries that certain posters like to leave behind, like people are too stupid to decide for themselves if they want to vote on the image or not. :)

Tedz ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 4:58 AM

Just a thought....and often My simple thoughts upset the Apple Cart....but...I see that those that dominate the Hot 20...are the ones most wanting it stopped. My advice is that You refrain from leaving the vote as a Public Display....VOTE....then perhaps, that Person will not feel "Obligated" to vote back...the old..."you scratch My back...I will scratch Yours :]

diomedes66 ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 7:15 AM

Tedz has a valid point and I will surely admit that I am one who from time to time V's for an image that I find particularly noteworthy and I do so to add emphasis to my comments or praise and to let the creator know that I really mean what I have written and that it is not just so much fluff.. AND, if I could disable voting on my own images there could be absolutely NO 'back scratching' going on. I personally do not wish to dictate anyone else's approach to 'RR.' I only want the flexiblity to control my own images.

hotracer2 ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 11:09 AM

Yes, I believe it is just as important to have a choice and be able to disable voting just like we do with comments, we can than make this less a contest as it has turned out to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"My advice is that You refrain from leaving the vote as a Public Display....VOTE....then perhaps, that Person will not feel "Obligated" to vote back...the old..."you scratch My back...I will scratch Yours" That's never gonna happen, Pal! If you take away the vote factor here you'll probably see a grape Kool-Aid mass suicide on a scale never before witnessed by humankind. It's important to the vote farmers...they NEED to feel popular! And imagine what it would be like to no longer see " V WOW! Picture Perfect! HugZZZ! " in the Hot 20? It'd be BORING man! Plus there's the money end of it for Renderosity. It's advertising products. You disable the vote button, you disable revenue. No, things will never change. Renderosity will lie to you about it by saying they're seeking solutions, but in reality they're not. It's obvious that many members here don't even visit the galleries. Their Renderosity memberships consist of e-mail notifications, vote buttons, and the Hot 20. The rest is a complete waste of time to them. Spend twenty minutes creating sub-par pictures, post, then wait for the life-giving votes to come in. That's all there is to it! Hey look, I'm popular at number 3! w00t! I cannot for the life of me understand why management didn't take my advice and rename it to "The Renderosity Popularity Contest". So, learn to live with the 'adolescent factor' of Renderosity, or, refrain from even posting here. Luv and HugZZZ! BYEEEEEE! Flame away!

soloshado ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 10:27 PM

Well...its apparent that there is not going to be any comment on the Vote issue from Rendo Admin. This post has been up to what? three-four days and they have totally ignored it...TerraDreamer may have a point.

hotracer2 ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 10:40 PM

I think that those who feel they need the votes will check that box anyway. For those who just enjoy posting there work for us to enjoy will do so and we can comment to let them know how we feel. Since it takes at least 13 or more votes to make the top 20, I realy don't know how or who votes for my posting but them again I am doing this for my own enjoyment of sharing with others not the vote anyway. Have a nice day and keep posting!!

DarkElegance ( ) posted Thu, 31 March 2005 at 11:51 PM

terredreamer I nearly spat all my mt dew out reading that! LOL. omg I would prefer to be able to just take the vote thing completely off. no need for it.

But even if we can't change the nature of it for others... at least WE could opt out of it for ourselves? Please?????

Birddie ( ) posted Fri, 01 April 2005 at 1:52 AM ยท edited Fri, 01 April 2005 at 1:52 AM

An option to opt-out of the vote crap would be nice. I dont see why we can't control our own gallery? ::shrugs::

The Hot 20 can be a controversial item. One guy told me he does not vote for images that are heavily postworked, ie ,hair and clothing because he feels it should be in the Mixed Media gallery and not in the Poser one. A lady told me she does not vote for images that are set up in Poser but rendered in Bryce or Vue as she feels that they too belong in the Mixed Media gallery. It boils down to there is no accounting for taste, I guess. I still believe, however, people should be given the option of whether they want their images to be voted on or not.

Between a police line-up and the HOT 20, I'd prefer to be in the police lineup... all but one of the other people standing there would be innocent. Given what I know of the HOT 20 with bribery and coersion and vote-buying and cliques, there are few who are there because of merit and many who are there by cheating. I don't vote for others and don't want them voting for me. It is no honor. Ranking is useless since if you don't lie and say Excellent to a piece of smudge with bad lighting, you get called out as a troll. Comments are a different matter. Sometimes you can get good feedback or know when you've touched someone. In any case, the artist ought to be able to select what sort of feedback buttons are under his or her image. Carolly

DarkElegance ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 12:24 AM

yup. god forbid that you go "the joint on that shoulder needs work" or" the lighting would cast a shadow it appears a little flat" or anything close. you then get told you are jealous, a troll, that "they don't know what they are talking about it is GREAT PERFECT DON'T CHANGE A THING" so what is the point? I think... remove all other options on rank except "excellent" and remove the vote button. trust me this would save a HUGE amount of time. as for things being told about the hot 20. hell I was told you have to "schmooze" enough. that to get there you have to really comment/vote to others peoples work and then they will vote on yours. sorry that is not what I am looking for. that is nothing but...."polite paybacks" and has nothing to do with quality. though I will say this. there are pieces that are in the hot 20 in poser that do honestly get there from merit and not "back scratching"
