Subject: ARGGHH!!!!!!! I can't win for losing.

Poser 6 and Vue 5 were running terribly slowly, so I upgraded my RAM from 1 gig to 2 and bought a 128 meg graphics card. (I actually tried to get a 250 meg graphics card, but the idiot NVidia card wouldn't fit. I had this stuff installed, by the way.) So after getting all this stuff installed, I tried to open Poser 6 and get to work. I could open Poser 6, I could bring figures in -- but the minute I try to hit the file window -- OPEN file or Import background -- Poser 6 instantly crashes. However, the program would render an existing file -- if I clicked on the icon for the file itself -- just fine, and faster than before. I tried reinstalling Poser 6 over on top of the current version, but that didn't work. I am loathe to uninstall and reinstall the thing, though I have got backup discs of my libraries and so forth. I will if i have to, but it's a huge pain. Any thoughts?

That has been reported by others as well. I think it had to do with making sure that you have the current video drivers and making sure that your Open GL settings for the card are configured for hardware acceleration.

The CL web site has info on this and instructions on how to deal with it. When I loaded P6, at the end were instructions about this as well.

OK! I will go check.

It seems to be a great misconception regarding the newest video card drivers and Poser 6... My Nvidia card is about 3 driver releases behind than the most current ones.... My P6 works like a charm and has NOT crashed once in a week of being installed.

Folks can go to www.guru3d.com or www.3dgpu.com for beta/stable/usually better drivers....

Site Admin Online Now!

I'll second that, my video card was bought a little before Christmas and P6 is working like a charm so I don't plan on updating the drivers for fear it will stop working LOL!

Come to find out, my settings for the card were wrong. I upped it to Best Quality, and it did fine.

okies...

first drop your hardware acceleration tab down to Off.
then open Poser 6 and goto the preview options (render options and it's on the end tab)

now change it to OpenGL : Hardware. (it defaults to Software)

close poser
turn HA back on
reopen poser...

that should do the trick... this is the most consistant fix for P6 crashing out I have found so far. (this has been tested by myself on 2 differing Nvidia cards and confirmed by several ppl I have passed this fix onto)

GREAT!!! I installed a new driver, and so far that seems to have worked. But if it craps out on me again, I'll do this. Thanks!
