Subject: NEW DAZ character?

belalarue ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 4:45 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 8:47 PM

daz is saying they have a new secret character about to release, anyone know which it is? a michael 4.0 perhaps?

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 4:57 AM

Whatever it is, I hope it works with Poser 5 :)

Well, I do know of one character that's in the works and in the hands of the Published Artists there, but I didn't know it was a secret... Can't say what it is because of the NDA and all, but I can tell you it's not a "Generation 4" figure. ;) bonni

I think it's a male counterpart for Aiko, at least this is what rumours say. I hope it's true, it's hard to find good-looking male manga character/morph.

Darn! was really hoping for a gen 4 michael!!!!

bigjobbie ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 6:01 AM

Preview pics have all been for "Hiro" - the male version of Aiko3 - I think I still prefer the look of the M3 Bishonen morphs though, but I'll keep an eye on the character add-on packs to see if one of brokers comes up with an interesting morph...

There is something in the works, something big from Daz.

I am one of the least "dazzy" people here [understatement], but it is certain that there will be a big announcement soon. The owner of Daz, in a recent thread here, came right out and called one project VictoriaPro. That's straight from the big guy's mouth, Dan Farr, in writing, of his own volition, right here in an open forum of Renderosity. This is not necessarily, however, the forthcomming public announcement. It may be the anime figure you are speaking of, I don't know.

To lay a little more on the table, and I don't think Mr. Farr will object to this because I am honoring the content information he disclosed to me and will withhold it in this thread, I spoke to him for 1/2 hour on the phone 10 days ago. The reason: I had been highly critical of Daz for holding this March Madness sale right in the face of the release of Poser6 and Jessi/James. He called me both to go deeper into my constructive criticism of his model and also to assure me that there is no hyper antagonism between CL and Daz and that the timing was not a cheap shot to take away from CL's moment in the sun.

He told me that Daz was actually holding back, per verbal cooperation with Curious Labs, from making their announcement right at the same time that E-On (Vue Infinite) and CL were unveiling.

Expect something big soon.

I also spoke to Dan at length about Cl, and he had nothing but nice things to say about them, and he really seemed to want to work with them as much as possible, but I don't think the feeling is mutual (or daz would have been in Content Paradise, and Daz would be selling P6.) Also, there is a preview thread on the mystery character over in the Member's only daz forum, with plenty of pics.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Dan Farr is really a nice guy. I'm always so impressed when he takes the time to call me, and talk at great lengths. Unfortunately I didn't even think about discussing the matters mentioned in this thread, so I didn't get any such info. My last discussion centered partly around a minor problem buying an item. That's why I was so impressed that both Dan and Moira took the time to call me

I'd just like someone to fix the bicep/tricep/collar joint on M3 so it looks more like a real person and not like a plastic toy that was left in the sun too long. But heck, as Poser addict, I'll probably scrimp and save and whine to get whatever they put out that doesn't require me to purchase yet another new computer to run it.

Online Now!

I think it's going to be an Aiko 3 man...

belalarue ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 9:33 AM

I think the best michael morph package going so far, is the brom package from capsces, though you have to be careful the results dont look caracture-ish. michael from daz, just looks too.........michael! the head sculpture paks help though.

maclean ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 9:33 AM

Try to imagine Bill Gates picking up the phone to call someone because they have a problem with windows. It would be front page news on a worldwide scale! Say what you like about DAZ, but at least they try. mac

DCArt ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 9:48 AM

I've had nothing but positive experiences from them for as long as I've had the pleasure to be a PA with them. They are all very good, kind people. It's really refreshing to hear folks say POSITIVE things about DAZ for a change! LOL

I think it's the fourth generation MORPHING CUBE. They are just late for the April 1st release....

no P6 yet, but you know what, I am in no hurry because I am not going to even run it until Content SR1 and technical SR1. I am working on non-human models and audio for my next animation while this is all jelling. ::::: Opera :::::

It's Hiro. You can see preview pictures of him, Toyo Hair, Hiro Hair, as well as new clothes, textures, and poses for him in the Members forum at DAZ. Like Aiko, he can go from Anime to Realistic. (So he can go from Boyish Anime to Bruce Lee I'm-going-to-kick-you-butt buff! LOL!) There is an additional Hiro figure that can wear David clothes. He can wear all Mill 3 textures, but he has an extra material zone in the legs like Aiko. Rumor has it, as the 7th figure in the Unimesh line, he has greatly improved JPs and poses better than M3 or David. I have a hunch he's going to become my new favorite. ;) bB

Smoovie ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 3:21 PM

I think it's Hiro. If there's something else, I haven't heard about that. But in the DAZ -Memebers Only- forum, there's pictures (ads) of this new guy. Everything looks reaaly nice. I'm hearing there would be more info monday. It's also a possible release date. We'll see!!!

belalarue said: I think the best michael morph package going so far, is the brom package from capsces I totally agree! And if you don't dial in the morphs to full 1 you can get some fantastic realistic looks. Beth did a pack for Aiko too and it's just as terrific. I only wish I had more time to do some renders with them :/

Eternl_Knight ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 10:10 PM

Just a quick one in response to the comment from Garee regarding the fact that CL probably aren't friendly to DAZ. From what I understand, DAZ have their own pretty successful store and as such, are not likely to want another company taking a slice of the profits from selling their content. Now if CL were to, say, not sell M3/V3 content (as they have complete rights to do) then I would agree with Garee's assessment. This is not anti-DAZ or anti-CL, but simply an injection of realism. They ARE competing companies (DAZ|Studio & Bryce are setup almost directly opposite Poser & Vue in the software domain), so one can expect certian decisions to be made by both sides, I just don't thing DAZ staying out of Content Paradise was something they were "forced" into but rather a decision they made to concentrate sales through their site.

cedarwolf ( ) posted Sun, 03 April 2005 at 9:37 AM

"simply an injection of realism," Is that up near the "Make Art" button? It's gotta be a P6 thing, my P5 and P4 versions don't have anything like reality injection capabilities...darn!!

belalarue ( ) posted Mon, 04 April 2005 at 12:54 AM

back on topic, Vicky is a 6 foot silicon toting salad eating model wannabe. and for some strange reason, stephanie's proportions arent that different from vicky! i have much better results with The girl, as a start, and she is a toon! there was a guy that used to work vicky into a nicely shaped perfectly seasoned little burrito. i think his name was blackheart or something like that.(KAI was character's name) havent seen him around. but he really knew how to give vicky some great curves and shape. wish he was on the daz team!

Yes, it is blackhearted, and his character is Irina based on Stepanie 3. Irina at least has a non-clod figure, but there is nothing blackhearted could do about the typical Unimesh shoulder/arms problem. There is not one doubt that any new Daz character will share this fate, because the company is totally committed to the Unimesh. VictoriaPro will be a unimesh character. As we see, Jessie and James are subject to the problem as well. It is time to solve this rigging issue...it is impeding the introduction of great models. ::::: Opera :::::
