Subject: Considering Buying Poser 6 & I Have a Few Questions

jaybutton ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 9:01 AM · edited Tue, 07 January 2025 at 6:40 PM

I tend to be kind of cautious, so I thought I would wait to hear what the general buzz was about Poser 6 before I bought it. Well, with some exceptions, the general buzz is positive, so I think I am going to buy it. Before I do, however, I just want to be sure about a few things . . . 1) Do Millenium 3 INJ and REM poses work in Poser 6? 2) Do Poser Pro Pack Bump Maps work in Poser 6? 3) Do Magnets like those sold by Wyrmmaster work in Poser 6? 4) What is this "Missing Testure File" error that I am hearing about with Poser 6? Is Poser 6 having trouble finding textures for content new with Poser 6? Is it having trouble finding textures from previous Runtime folders? Or is it having trouble finding textures from both? Is there a fix for this problem? Thanks for the help! This is a great community! Jay

1.I had a problem with the INJ,But I made a copy of them move them to P6 and now everything works fine... 2.So far I don't have a problem with the Bump maps. 3.They seem to work fine for me so far. 4.I don't have a clue about that.I haven't run into that problem. Over all I'm very happy with P6 and I made the big jump from PP:)

Maybe I am an idiot but see my post above. I have the eyes popping out problem with the P6 render even with OpenGL turned off. There is less content then P5 (only 3 of the P5 figures and none of the clothes). Ther are the new P6 figures but they only have limited sculpting in Face Room so it looks like I need to buy the morph sets a RDNA to use them! Likewise a base texture that isn't over selftanned. I am bumming out until someone can help me with my eyes poping out issue... I imagin the forumm here is faster than Tech Support. :(

  1. Old style Morph injection still works. Hopefully DAZ will update this stuff to use PMD morph injections they work much faster. (10 seconds to fully inject V3!) 2) P6 uses jpg style bump maps just like P4PP 3) They even work in Jessi with some slight tewaking. 4) Will be corrected by SR1 which will be out very soon. Nerd3D

So far Poser6 has been nothing but trouble as far as I'm concerned. I've got a pretty heavy spec computer but P6 won't render a scene with a building prop, 3 figures [2 V3 and 1 M3], and 5 lights with shadows. It locks up on rendering shadow maps and then I have to 3 finger it!! Works fine with the P4 render engine but you can't do all the new stuff with that so I've gone back to P5 until the first service release comes out. Sorry to disapoint!! Oh my spec is Pentium 4 3.4 GHz processor hyperthreaded, 1 Gig of RAM, and an ATI Radeon 256 Meg x600 pro grpahics card with drivers dated February 22nd this year. thefixer poser coordinator

Thanks everyone for the replies. Perhaps Poser 6 isn't as great as I thought. I am interested to hear what other people think, too.

Poser 4, 5, and 6 have worked just fine for me.

Same with me. So far, Poser 6 has been going pretty smoothly, the only problems I've encountered are more because of my unfamiliarity with the new features than any problems with Poser itself. I waited till SR3 before I got P5, and by then the worst of the bugs were fixed, but this time CL seems to have done a much better job of it. This version has way fewer bugs than 5 had. As to your questions, 1. I have had no peroblems with the Inj and REM poses. 2. When you load a P4 item, it will ask you to locate the .bum file, well just direct it to the jpg with the same name and it will accept it (doesn't freeze up like Pro Pack does when you try that) I haven't tried the magnets, but they probably do work, and I haven't yet run into that fourth problem.

So far so good with me. I like the new features. Seems stabler and smoother. Only one problem so far I got an "out of memory" error on the max quality level of Fire Fly. Odd, I have 4g ram, P4 3.6 HT, ATI 9800 raedon & XP managed memory. Oh Well.
