Subject: Out of memory error! Vue5Inf.

Tiny ( ) posted Sat, 02 April 2005 at 6:58 AM ยท edited Thu, 30 January 2025 at 5:04 PM

With only 2.054.575 polygons I get an out of memory error! My settings are "minimal" with 3 undos, etc.
P4, 3 Ghz, 2Gb RAM, Radeon 9600 pro.WinXPpro, SP1.
Latest beta patch for Vue.

Anyone else getting this for seemingly no reason at all?

Another thing which may have to do with the above problem:
I noticed that Vue creates a "storage" of all kind of files on my 'C:' disk. Can I change the place for this 'default' storage place? Don't want it messing with my C: disk. Only 3,5 Gb free on it.

right click on mycomputer icon> properties> advanced> performance settings> uclick all the pointless windows smoothing functions then go to the advanced tab and hit change under virtual memory - there you can set the amount and where vue can use a page file or any other program for that matter

Thank you, will do that. Good suggestions. :o)

As for the storage on C: drive - ignore it. Store your files-scenes, materials, objects wherever you want. I am rather picky about my c: drive and only have Windows installed there. I have data in one partition and programs in another. Vue works just fine. That has nothing to do with your memory problem, unfortunately. In Vue5I, polys aren't all that simple. You can have 2 billion polys in an ecosystem that won't bother Vue at all. If you are importing Poser figures, those polys can be a problem. As can other objects and hi-res materials. These all have to be taken into consideration. There is also a Flush History button in your File>Options>General Preferences screen. It doesn't hurt to hit that once and a while to free up resources.

I have also seen this problem, but the wierd thing - on my 2 Gig 3.2Ghz P4 at the time of out of memory error happens.. only 1 Gig of ram is being used. There is no problem with VM, I have almost 500G of storage space on this system and it should be way under 1/2 full. I have notice the out of memory error happening when populating an ecosystem. Maybe Vue should have per ecosystem limited of objects.

Yes you may have 500GB free but windows may not know that it can use it ususaly you have a pagefile set as a maximum of twice your real ram size check 2nd message to expand.

But then again its not a memory issue since at the time of the error, only 1 Gig of 2Gig memory is being used. My total VM is about 4 Gig which is 4 times the memory. Sound like there is bug in Vue with systems with larger amounts of memory. I espect we are going to have more and more these types isuse once Memory on machines gets bigger - especially when we have 64 bit systems out there.

In another forum, same type of discussion, this article was recommended. It made some sense (which is something for microsoft) and it doesn't always work with all systems. But it might explain some memory management issues. www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx

Interesting information but I am not sure if applies here.. 1. Did E-On software compile Vue with the IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE linker switch turn on. If no the application is still limited to 2Gig according to Microsoft article that Lingrif posted. 2. My system memory at the time of error was indicating that only 1Gig of the 2Gig phyiscal was actually being used. My systems has been running for days and even down the Peak memory usages is 1314052 which is less than the 2gig phyiscal.
