Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
You can stop Poser from saving morphs to a seperate .pmd file by selecting it in the preferences. This cleared up the problem for me at least. I had the same thing happen to the Freak.

from the Poser 6 Reame.txt in your Poser 6 root directory: "External Binary Morph Targets ----------------------------- By default, Poser 6 saves morph targets to an external binary file format (.pmd), which contains only the morph targets for a particular figure or scene. This format allows for faster loading and greater flexibility, as the targets are no longer enmeshed with the rest of the data in the PZ3/PZZ scene file. " More explanation there. Sounds reasonable enough, but full implications haven't really sunk in yet for me. Are you guys saying it does not work for you as described? (haven't gotten that far yet here)
Wolf, what he's saying (and what I've experienced as well), is that once you load morphs on certain characters with .pmd enabled, then save, close, and re-open the scene, the morphs are still there, but they don't seem to work anymore. I also have PMD disabled, which is a fix, but it shouldn't do that with it enabled I would say. It doesn't do it with the P6 figures, but some Daz figures have problems it seems.

CL's Response: "I took a look at the link you provided, and apparently the problem you've encountered stems from having the "Use external binary morph targets" preference checked in the General Preferences. This is turned on by default as a way to speed loading of PZ3 files containing multiple figures or complex morphs. I suspect that the reason it doesn't work well with Vicky is that Daz builds their figures morph-free and all morphs are applied via injection poses; since Poser 6 doesn't save morph channels by default in a PZ3, rather saving out a binary morph target (PMD) file, the morph data in the PZ3 is lost when you save the file. Unchecking that preference should fix the problem, and I'll post a FAQ on the site about that."

I encountered this bug in P6 and reported it to CL:
I loaded a clothed V3 character that I created in P5 into P6, tweaked her a little, then saved her as a character (.CR2). When I loaded her into a new P6 scene, her face morph was "lost" -- she looked like a standard Vicky. The morph dial was still set to 1 and it would not respond no matter what I set it to. The clothing morphs were OK. I examined the .CR2 and notice that the V3 morphs were saved in .pmd file. The clothing morphs were still in the .CR2, however.
Moral of this story -- Don't overwrite your old P4 and P5 characters from P6, until CL fixes this problem. The same may be true for .PZ3 files, so be careful here.
