Subject: Poser 6 revealed

I bought the physical shipment of Poser 6 and it's been hard to wait but it was worth it, the package is gorgeous: beautiful box, beautiful manual, beautiful quick reference guide and some interesting sheets and discounts. Amongst them a sheet about Poser 6 revealed, a book about Poser 6 which is advertised as being sold on the CL site, but I can not find it. Can anyone please point me to it?

spedler ( ) posted Wed, 06 April 2005 at 8:28 AM

Doesn't seem to be available yet. If you go to www.courseptr.com and search on 'Poser', it'll tell you that the release date is April 15. Amazon (UK) doesn't know about it yet.

Neat! But who is Kelly Murdock? Anyone we know?

geep ( ) posted Wed, 06 April 2005 at 9:24 AM

Yes ... well, sort of . If you go to Amazon.com (link above) and click on "Kelly L. Murdock" (name right below "Poser Revealed:") you can see other books that have been authored by Kelly Murdock. I have the "Gmax Bible" (852 pages - authored by Murdock) and it is excellent! cheers, dr geep ;=]

Now does this book cover anything new that the manual doesn't cover?...It doesn't have preview pages and the index really doesn't give me any insite of anything interesting...

geep ( ) posted Wed, 06 April 2005 at 10:10 AM

I have it on order and, if you would like, I will do a mini review after I have looked at it. Yes? ;=]

Thanks Dr. Geep, but the problem is that I live in Italy and if I buy from Amazon.com, I will have to add customs charge. Also, I have a 10% voucher that came with the box and that I can spend on the CL Store. So I will wait for it to appear there. But I'll be happy to read your review in the meantime. :-)

geep ( ) posted Wed, 06 April 2005 at 10:40 AM

Sorry 'bout that ... it ain't a "perfek" world ....... yet! ;=] P.S. Could you have someone that you know in the States buy it and send it to you, no? ... Just a thouight. ;=]

Interesting (and slightly annoying) that it's available for order on amazon.com but not amazon.co.uk. However, amazon uk does have a book called 'Poser Revealed' (note the absence of any '6') which apparently is by Anthony Hernandez, and if you look carefully at the image on amazon.com (see dr. geep's link) the cover actually credits Hernandez, not Murdock, and also doesn't have the '6' in the title. 'Poser Revealed' is said to be a hard to find title, publication date Dec 04. Presumably it never got published due to the then imminent release of P6, but I wonder why the apparent change of author?

The flier included in the P6 box definitely says P6 on the book cover, and Murdock is credited, but otherwise the cover is identical. Very odd.

FYI - There is another (Poser) book by Anthony Hernandez about Poser animations which will be coming out in a couple of months. I, also, have this book on order and will let you know when I receive more info about it. cheers, dr geep ;=]

Yes, I have that one on order as well. Be interesting to see these two books, there haven't been very many on Poser so far.

As I just moved from Poser 4 (pro-pack)to version 6, the differences between the versions is quite substantial. I was in fact just about to purchase version 5 when I got word through the forum that six was on its way, so I held off and now have it up and running... Are the differences between 5 and 6 so substantial that a Poser 5 book would be worthless or is there enough similarity that a P5 book could help-- in particular the different lighting/rendering options. (I suppose the whole material/cloth/hair rooms would also fall into that category for me as well, but...) Can anyone recommend a good P5 book that might be beneficial since the P6 literature (bookwise) is slim? Thanks-- David

Hi Dave, I'm not sure about a P5 book but ... Here's some P5 tuts for ya. cheers, dr geep

In case anyone doesn't know, Mr. Hernandez was the author of the Poser 4 and 5 manuals.

The lighting and rendering options are different enough that it might be worth the wait for a P6 book.

"In case anyone doesn't know, Mr. Hernandez was the author of the Poser 4 and 5 manuals." I didn't know about version 4 but I knew he wrote 5. Which is why I won't be buying his book.

In case anyone doesn't know, Mr. Hernandez was the author of the Poser 4 and 5 manuals. I didn't know that, thanks for the info. I think I might be a touch reluctant to buy the 'Poser revealed' book in that case, but I've already ordered the animations book by him now.

Poser 6 Revealed appears to be by Kelly Murdock, not Anthony Hernandez.

spedler ( ) posted Wed, 06 April 2005 at 4:27 PM

Yes, but see my post #10 above. (Actually, I'll probably buy it anyway. I'm a sucker for books, can't resist them!)

Books get put into the Amazon system early on during production. It might be that Anthony was initially going to write the book, but it appears now that he is doing another one instead. The coupon inside the P6 box does say that the author is Kelly Murdock, which agrees with what Amazon has in the text portion of the blurb. It may be that they haven't realized the error in the cover image.

Bobasaur ( ) posted Wed, 06 April 2005 at 4:54 PM

I wonder if Anthony ever got his sci-fi book done?

Before they made me they broke the mold!

Try Thomson Course Technology PTR at http://www.courseptr.com They have the book for sale!

Thanks Dr. Geep for the links to your tutorials...I certainly will give them a go. Like spedler, I'm something of a bookaholic and will end up purchasing the P6 books as well. Still not sure from the limited feedback if P5 and P6 are that substantially different than the move from P4 to P5.

Hello, I was originally working on the "Poser Revealed" book. Left that project and am now working on the PeachPit title. For now at least. Anthony
