Subject: P6 adding light to prop

P6 has a new light feature that from my understanding allows you to add a light to a prop or figure(as if the prop or figure is emiting the light) I just cant seem to figure this out does anyone know how to do this?

I was just wondering the same thing last night, and was going to experiment with that. Thanks for the reminder! Let me poke around a bit and I'll get back to it unless someone else answers first. 8-)

I seem to remember doing something in the material room with Poser 5 which made an item glow - I think it involved changing the values of translucence. Nigel

That's the only thing I've learned so far, and also to change the translucence color to match the color of the light. As far as attaching the light to the prop, you can select the light and do the Object > Change Parent thing, so that when you move the prop the light goes with it. As far as saving the Prop and Light in the same library file, I haven't figgered that one out yet. 8-)

Deecey, I know nothing about this but I am wondering if this could work: I know you can save poses as cm2, lt2, etc. and they'll still be poses; Poser 6 is full of conforming clothes in the Props library so that means they have been saved as pp2 instead of cr2. So why could you not save the light as a pp2 or the prop as a lt2 if you want the two of them in the same library?

That's what I was thinking as well ... I haven't had the time to test it, but I was going to try to take the info from the LT2 file and combine it with the PP2 file to see if it worked and loaded together.

Are you asking about the gather node, Rocarn? It can be used to simulate radiosity.

wow ok you all have gone way over my head here I am new to poser had it about 3 weeks now. Ummm lets see I have partially figured out my problem using the point light option I have created the effect on the surroundings of light emanating from the object. Now my problem is getting the tip of the object to glow or even to light up which Im finding seems to have something to do with the materials room so now its time to figure out what all the nodes do. What does putting things in the same library do for you? Seems to be the general idea of Deecey and Francemi.

I was trying to achive the same object, i.e. have an object as the source of the light .I fail, and i think its not possible to do in poser. The closest effect i was able to get is adding high ambient value to the fake light, and have a gether node plugged into the surrounding material's alternate diffuse node. Then use a dark light, and tadaaam. But still, thats not what you or me are looking for, thats just a fake glow effect..

There are two aspects to lighting a prop. 1 - Make it emit light, this can be done by putting a point light near or in the prop (don't forget you will have to use ray tracing and if you put a light in a prop the prop itself must not cast any shadow). An additional primitive prop (with shadow on) may be required to cast correct shadows). 2 - Make it appear to light up, this is done by setting the correct color (or map) in the ambient channel and increasing the ambient value to above 1 (in general the diffuse value should be set to 0).
