Wow! Too bad they don't make those flat black and round LP's anymore. This would have been a much better album cover for Hotel California.

I hope you're gonna upload this one to your gallery 'cause i have a LOT to say about this it! :) I wanna know EVERYTHING about how you took this shot!!!! It's incredible!!! and i agree with joe...it would be perfect for that! ..."there's plenty of room at the Hotel California!"

Got some feedback from Brian and Cindy in the gallery and went back and did some cleanup of the blacks. From the looks of it this should be the final image. Thanks...ya'll saved my butt...;)...ain't got much left as it is...

soloshado ( ) posted Tue, 12 April 2005 at 12:59 AM

I tried it with the drop shadow on the bottom db and it didn't feel natural with the light coming from below. It did seperate the font from the fog and made it stand out more but with all the glitz in this compo I decided to keep it subdued and try not to be two busy. Kind of a split decision...so I went with the natural look...thanks for the suggestion.

Everything?...you mean like EVERYTHING?? jeezz Sheila...hahaha....I can't even remember that far back...

Another one of those memory lapses crypto...those days were totally a fog...partied hard back then...I always enjoyed their music, but I'd spend my money on a Sabbath, Tull or Queensryche concert instead.

tvernuccio ( ) posted Tue, 12 April 2005 at 2:13 AM

Hmmm, i actually like the first one better too! LOL! haven't been to your gallery yet. :( creepin' along tonight. i'll take a look and see what they said later. i did notice some kind of shadow in the black part on top. i see you got rid of that and it looks better. didn't even notice it earlier. i see where you changed the lighting where it says "Solomage." i think it looks much more natural in the first one. and i also like how you have your name positioned better on the first one. to me, having it in the middle on the 2nd one is a bit distracting. I mean, it's still a totally awesome shot! those are just minor things. but i really do like the first one better! :) if it were me, i'd keep it the way it was but just clean up the blacks! :) but i guess there was a reason you changed it and you must like it better, so that's cool!!!!!!! Ok, let me go comment & add this one to my favs!!!! and, no...not EVERYTHING!!!! but you know...like where was it taken, what is this place, etc!!!!!!! :)

cynlee ( ) posted Tue, 12 April 2005 at 3:52 AM

hi raz... can't you clone in the black blotches on the 1st?... if you have trouble blending... selective feather blur or do your best to clone, smooth, copy... layer this one on top & erase back the new smoothed sky but definately stay with the first :]

Here ya go Sheila....this is the original night shot. It is a pier that spans the railroad tracks down in the Bottoms with a four story staircase at the end that allows people access to the river on foot. Eventually I believe they anticipate making a park down there. Signature is just thrown in there.

Fabulous image and interesting to see it develop :) I thought it was a macro of an old vinyl LP from what people were saying

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

This is the second shot I took to complete the image. The tower is part of a restaruant down in the Country Club Plaza. Had to do some creative searching to be able to get a level vantage point to get a clean shot of the tower. Wound up on the top level of a four story parking garage about five blocks away. Shot it with a medium telephoto and of course this is a crop to preserve the original image and the file size is small so the quality suffers...but you get the idea. The toughest part of the whole project was cloning out the ladder on the tower and the center piece of Solomage is hand painted with a Wacom tablet/Photoshop.

tvernuccio ( ) posted Tue, 12 April 2005 at 8:54 AM

Wow!!!!! Thanks soooo much for showing me, Raz!!! that original shot is magnificent too!!!!!! I LOVE it!!!! What a special place to hang around and take pics!!!!! I am REALLY impressed with what you did and seeing both shots and how you put them together makes me appreciate that first one even more! brilliant stuff all the way around!!!!! thanks a bunch for sharing all this! Steve...just wanted to say hi & welcome aboard!!! :)

soloshado ( ) posted Tue, 12 April 2005 at 9:04 AM

The vision I had that spawned the center piece was the idea that it was my computer room and the gold ball on top was the enclosure for a microwave dish providing direct satellite uplink. As you can see...spending wayyyy tooo much time on the computer...hahaha

Cool work!

ReBorneUK ( ) posted Tue, 12 April 2005 at 4:00 PM

Really like the way you've built this up Solo - I couldn't put my finger on what it was that got me with the first one, then I realised the reflections don't come towards you like they normally would - and it works great! Personally I find it trying to pull me through the picture instead of into it, wierd but well cool..... mmm. CeeJay, What's an LP mate? snigger (",)

soloshado ( ) posted Tue, 12 April 2005 at 4:44 PM

I feel the same way Jordy. After creating the globe enclosure at the end it was vacant in the center...between the legs?..hmmm..well anyway...It felt like I should try to create a room on the other side...too small...was working in one pixel as it was. Does anyone know the theory behind pixel size? I believe pixels could be just slightly smaller than what they are and the human eye would still be able to detect the difference in detail. Especially someone with 20/20...I'm half blind and still could use a little more resolution.

ReBorneUK ( ) posted Wed, 13 April 2005 at 11:33 AM

Between the legs? Ah, now we are getting the Freudian Insight into the real meaning of the picture.....lol (",) erm, actually, looking at at THAT way........ ;-)

cynlee ( ) posted Wed, 13 April 2005 at 11:47 AM

rolls eyes why am i not surprised you'd zero in on that mike :] yep... felt the same about this image, but i wrote that in your gallery & go crazy working in single pixels :P

ReBorneUK ( ) posted Wed, 13 April 2005 at 11:57 AM

Yer' Honour, In my defence I would like to point out that I didn't notice it until it was mentioned, M'lud. I plead Not Guilty ;-) (",)
