Subject: April challenge: London At Night
Oh crap what are you complaining about??? ARE YOU NUTS??? This ones gorgeous! Love those colours, and the river looks great! BIG BEN...wooohoooo!!! Ive seen that place before. The last time i was in London i got lost in SOHO...yikes...never again!!!! Me and my buddy entered a "pub" there...but we left rather quick as soon as we saw that the price for a simple beer was about 50 pounds...i wonder what came with that one....hardly peanuts, LOL. Ooops...me getting off topic AGAIN!!!! Beautiful nightshot Pascale, certainly one you need not complain about. Well done!!!!
How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when
isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is
supposed to be fire and brimstone?

lol joe... seen that typo a few times in gallery comments... ummm... this really doesn't look out of focus here... & i even cleaned my glasses now! o.O! the colors are what i luv too :] & i want to goooooooo to London seeing this! maybe we can trade places for a couple days & you can veg out here in the country with the bluebonnets & cows

Yeah...Pascale, I see EXACTLY what you mean about this shot. It's right THERE... plain as "night" Hmmmm lets see...WHERE do start?!?!?! The composition...well, I hate to say this...but (IMHO) it's REALLY COOL! The colors...there's just something... um... I don't know... AMAZING about them! That BLUR you spoke about...OH MY...is just NON-EXISTENT in my eyes (You MUST be using one of them NICE crappy tripods I hear so much about) (LOL) The only REAL NITPICK I have about this.... ... is that I didn't take it! Cyn my dear, anytime! :D Joseph, I didn't see that typo so...well..it didn't bother me! Hehe! ;) Thomas&Pat, thxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx! :) Rich&Joe, the tower is out of focus! I was aiming at it u see! And on the postcards of London at night, believe me, the tower is much clearer than that! Ok, the guys who shot this surely have a much more powerful equipment than I do but still! Mmmmh! And my tripod DOES suck Joe! It's actually on the top of my "must buy" list!

Ye should have asked after me mate - they would have dropped the price by half and thrown in a coupla Walnut Whips ;-) They do that sort of thing for regulars...... ahem (",)
"Rich&Joe, the tower is out of focus!" OK I understand what you are saying. It is a depth of field issue. Your camera has focussed on the bridge, it is pin sharp. The tower is some considerable distance behind the Hungerford footbridge and with a compact camera I don't think you would be able to get both places absolutely pin sharp as you have seen on a postcard. I would imagine you used the zoom lens and quite a large aperture. The information should still be there in EXIF data on your image even though it is not the original. The postcard pic. was probably taken on a larger format film with a lens set at something like F22 to get the depth of field you have seen. Having said that I don't think it detracts from your image at all to have this slight dof difference. It more relates to the reality of the situation than the postcard. The bridge and tower are at least 1/2 mile apart. The difficult thing was getting the colours and you have done that perfectly, the sky is right as are the lights. I prefer the bridge to be the one that is in focus since that is the nearer object.

If you are using PSP open image, go to 'image' along the top and choose information you should find a tag for it there.

yea I know that Tom! But the point here is that I thought I did NOT save the original!! ;) The thing is, as I was looking for the original shot of my letter box for Sheila, I found it!! Woohoo!! So here's the settings: F2.4 exp. 1.3 sec metering mode: pattern White balance: tungsten Also, I didn't do any PS on this one other than a slight straightening and the framing.
Whoopie!! You got it! I always bring up the original, go to edit>copy>paste as new image. Then close and save the original. Work with the copy. The original and all data is there and any work done does not affect the very first shot. I believe you already know this stuff but I HAVE to repeat it for anyone else reading who does not do this. The pic is really great...the reflections, the lighting, all is really a grabber! Gal, you are doing some stuff that makes me wonder just where these night images are! : ) I don't get out much once I get home and around here, it is like Cyn, a night light or strap a flashlight to one of the pets. This month I am lame in number of pics..so goes it with the challenge. We do what we do where we do what we do. Time for hitting the sack here(going to bed). Have a wonderful today. Tom.

Ok, I know this is totally out of focus, due to my crappy tripod that shakes all over and stupidly I didn't use the timer BUT....I totally love the colors in that shot so I've decided to upload it anyhow!! Hehe! I will go back to London soon though and will try this one again! Yep! Ah yes, the settings... Oh crap! I deleted the original shot! Too blury, ok, it was ISO 100 for sure and no flash and a shaky tripod and ...I really can't remember! Oh crap! :( Why did I do that??
