Subject: Poser 5 Vs Poser 6

Hi! I have 2 questions....will the new product that will be made for Poser 6 be able to be used with Poser 5? Also....If I have Poser 5 and upgrade to Poser 6 will all of my product stay in tact and be able to be used in Poser 6? I won't have to upload all of the product I have already bought would I? Dumb questions I know but I'm a technical moron! (: Thank you!

I'll have to do more testing, but I do know that all the Poser 5 (and Poser 4/PPP) stuff I've loaded into Poser 6 so far works okay. As far as the other direction (Poser 6 stuff working in Poser 5)? I think it should work in most cases, as long as the P6 stuff doesn't use any P6-specific features or the newer P6-style .obz files and such. /P

As far as I can tell, anything I have for Poser 5 has been usable in Poser 6 (I know there will be people who say "no" but that's been my experience). I've been dipping into Poser 4 and Poser 5 folders without problems.

Now, products for Poser 6 will depend on if they use some of the new features of Poser 6. It seems unlikely that the new dynamic hair of Poser 6 would work in Poser 5, for example, but I haven't tried it so I don't really know.

Ooops....cross-posted with Penquinisto. Same answer. Sorry.

Some poser 6 materials don't translate backwards, and some poser 5 materials don't translate forwards with out some tweaking. Why? Because Lighting has changed in Poser 6. This may affect the materials you used. Bump and displacement(as well as some other nodes/materials) are now dependant on the units you use. Displacement using feet will work differently than displacement using meters or inches or PUs or cenimeters (but think of the control!) Some other notes: Easy Pose figures have a hard time with PMD's. You'll have to turn this feature off in P6 to use them. Poser 5 Dynamic Hair has to be edited to work in 6 (see related question in my faq, Hair Room), Poser 6 dynamic hair probably won't work in 5.

I love your FAQ pages. Great reference material.

Thank you! I tried to do the same with poser 5 but the effort got lost in the fighting. Stewer and Mec4d have pretty much covered that. Plus I don't like searching these bondware forums for the info....it takes hours...might as well grab it now as I read it. :) I lot of times I can't think of an answer unless I have a question first. (sounds strange I know)....like my on going struggle with painter 8...today I stumbled onto a solution just because Ryan Church has a little diagram of simular brushes in photoshop. I'm glad this helps...I hope I can keep it up...keep asking questions!!

I am testing a complex product that was developed specifically for Poser 6 and I find that it works just the same in Poser 5. From my perspective, there does not seem to be a problem. I have not tried winterqueen or the new P6 models in P5 yet.
