Subject: The material eydropper in P6 broken?

Anyone else notice the eyedropper in the material room doesn't work right anymore. Click on clothing and it selects the figure underneath or it picks the ground.

can't say i have had that problem as yet, mind you my Pc's power supplies on it's last legs and things are going a bit wobbly, so i will try the eye dropper when i plop the new power supply in tomorow.

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

Francemi ( ) posted Wed, 13 April 2005 at 10:23 PM

It does that but it is better than what it was doing before they fixed it (somehow it has been fixed with the content update. Before that you couldn't put it anywhere it was running from you and applying a color to any which part it felt like and there were all those popup palettes all over the place. Now it is very difficult to select the part you want but with patience you succeed. ;o)

Thats odd cause in P5 I could pick anything with the eye dropper and it would get it right. In fact I always wished the other tools could pick things that accurately. Now its a multi click game until it oicks the thing I want.

Francemi ( ) posted Wed, 13 April 2005 at 10:53 PM

Same here. I had P5 and no problems whatsoever with that eyedropper. But then the renders in P5 didn't have a one pixel background color border on 2 sides like the renders in Poser 6.

That's odd, becaue the eyedropper works just fine for me with my Poser 6. I just tried it on a character wearing a shirt, and the shirt has several different materials, and the eysdropper easily picked out the buttons, the trim, tha fabric, the hem, and the collar. It never once tried to select the figure underneath or the background. From all the odd problems some people have that other people don't, it's almost like as if Curious Labs sent out a different version to each customer :)

I had that problem when I was trying to select the right shin of a character when his left leg was under his right leg. It kept selecting the left leg instead.

Try using the SreeD preview and see it the eye dropper is still cranky. There was a bug with this way early in beta. It seemed to be fixed. It only effected OpenGL mode. If you are having the problem report it to CL using the bug form on their site. BE NICE They are working their butts off to get a SR out. Include as much detai about your graphics card as you can. It's very likely something to do with the implementation of OpenGL on the graphics card. Every card manufacturer seems to think they have better way of implementing OGL and the sandard becomes non-standard. You might also try updating to the latest drivers available for your card. Poser was written for current version drivers. Nerd3D

I don't find this too inconvenient when it occurs - more frustrating for me is the (albeit rare) empathy of the effect in the preview window, when trying to arrange some scenes. (GeForce4 Ti4600)

A related issue that I also experience with the colour picker in the material room - which is definitely annoying, is when I attempt to open the more colour options window when choosing a colour. If the place I click is over the Wacros (as it usually is) then Poser 6 insists on running the Wacro beneath it instead. In the screenshot above. if I was to click where the cursor is, then Poser would respond by running the Create Atmosphere Wacro.

Caulbox, I think the see through wings are supposed to be that way. It's because that material is partially transparent. I can't get the color picker to do that on my system. Is ths Windows or MAC? It could be OS Specific. P.S. You can access the system color picker with a [ctl]+Click. Nerd3D

DarkSkills ( ) posted Thu, 14 April 2005 at 3:07 PM

Caulbox, the same thing happens in my P6 as well:( Nerd 3D, is there any way to hide the Wacros?

At least I'm relieved to hear that its not a problem peculiar to my own setup now. Thanks for the [ctl]+Click tip - that really helps. I'm on XP Pro (SR2). This is what things looks like if I keep the mouse button pressed...

... also - not sure if this might be related in some strange way - but I've discovered that if I try and use the 'Copy Picture' command (in the edit menu) then this is what I get when the library palette is partially occluding the preview window? I still have P5 installed and I've just checked what happens there - and in P5 I get the full preview picture copied in similar circumstances.

Francemi ( ) posted Thu, 14 April 2005 at 4:13 PM

caulbox, instead of copying the picture, use export image. You'll get only the picture if you do that. I don't know why we have both options though. ;o) France

How strange! I've always used alt-click to get the real picker in P5, (I hate that damned small one!), and that's what I was doing in P6. In all this time, I didn't know ctrl-click worked. LOL. Yeah, I want a way to hide those dratted wacros. Every time I go into materials they appear, like a bloody plague. If I want them, let me go get them myself. mac

caulbox ( ) posted Thu, 14 April 2005 at 4:21 PM

I do indeed use export image for rendered pictures. Copy Picture is more designed as a WYSIWYG quick snap of exactly what is in the preview window. Why I mention it here in this context, is that the anomaly I'm encountering does seem similar - albeit in a bizarre distantly related way - to the Wacro/colour picker overlap... if you can follow my obscure reasoning.

DarkSkills, you can click the little "handle" on the wacro drawer. It will remember that during a session. I don't believe preferred state remembers that though. Caulbox, that copture thing is a real bug, I can reproduce it. Report it to CL maybe it will get in the SR. Nerd3D

RE: P6 Eyedropper

I do notice one difference between the p5 and P6 versions in that the P6 ED can select bodyparts and props on hover.

Once the item you want is highlighted, then click.
